Update: Issues with Printing Shipping Labels

Sep 15, 2005 1:09 AM
Hello Everyone,

Over the last week, there have been a number of discussions on the boards surrounding issues with printing shipping labels on PayPal. We have heard your frustrations, and want to thank you for the timely feedback.

Current Fixes

We have forwarded many of your comments directly to our development teams to fix these important issues quickly. Over the next few days, we will be making a number of improvements and fixes to the PayPal shipping label product. These improvements will directly address error messages you may have received in the past week.

While these solves may not fix all the current issues, please be aware that we should be able to fix all the problems you’ve been encountering when we release the availability of International Shipping Labels in November.

Improvements to 9-digit ZIP Code Handling

Also in the next few days we will be improving the handling of 9-digit ZIP Codes. (e.g. 95125-1234). No longer will some of you need to reduce a 9-digit ZIP Code to a 5-digit ZIP Code. We know that this has been causing you some problems and thus we are excited to get this change made.

We will periodically update this board posting to keep you informed of our progress addressing these issues. In the meantime, please keep posting your comments to the boards to keep us informed of any problems you’re having.

Regards,

Shane Menchions

Update: Issues with Printing Shipping Labels

I have been unable to print shipping labels for the past 18 hours. I get message 3005 - "We are sorry that we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later."

This is ridiculous.

OK I understand there is a problem, are we supposed to continue to hope they print out and if not we will just let our cash fly in limbo....

If Paypal will not release money spent on shipping that we cannot access then perhaps you should close that function until it is repaired. Danzamovin

I was able to print a label yesterday afternoon but unable to print one later. Got the same message that others have complained about. "Unable to connect to USPS", "sorry for the temporary difficulties", etc. My concern is that it appears as though the transaction is complete on my PayPal account. Not to mention the fact that my buyer already received notification of shipment with a tracking number. Ahh! If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Part of the problem would be solved if the "out of order" message was shown before we spend our time and then our hard earned money rather than after. I talked to a help tech today and they are supposed to get in touch with me about a refund for all the ill gotten funds they have gotten from me in this manner.

Same problems here, can not ship to customers because of paypal. They process the payment but no label. Getting refunded is not easy. Refund should be giving immediately as paypal takes the money immediately. What is going on here? Would someone let me know when problem is corrected. Thank you

Update: Issues with Printing Shipping Labels

I have found that if I keep hitting reprint this label, the label will finally print. I've never offered a "print label" link! It seems to take 5 or 6 times of getting various error messages and then I'll see the label with "sample" written across it. If you print that out...that IS the label without sample on it. Seems Paypal should have had their ducks in a row BEFORE putting this item in our hands. When I called, I was told it is an "intermittent problem" connecting to USPS! Its constant with me...not intermittent at all. I know they're anxious to get it up and running correctly so they can start charging us for each label we print (like I don't know the agenda) LOL

Oh...when you see the label appear in the box with sample written on it, be sure to use the PRINT link that is in the box itself! You should also get a box that will stay there until the label is printed. It asks if label was printed correctly...yes/no. Good luck everyone. I hope they straighten this out because stamps.com no longer has small accounts for small sellers and there's no way I can pay 15.99 just for the service plus postage.

Hey! I just wanted to put my two cents in....I have had problems this past week or so also...unable to print a label after paying, only to receive an error message. I have found that if you check your email for label confirmation, there is a link to print another label. This usually works for me. I hope they get it fixed soon.

You can go directly to usps.com and print your labels there. I am waiting until all the complaints stop before I will ever use paypal's label printing function!

I am a buyer who had sellers report their problems to me. When I checked with PayPal a service rep told me to inform my credit card conpany to change my 9 digit zip to a 5 digit. lol I had to take a double check to see if it was a spoof.

Instead, I informed all sellers for the week to drop the extension IF they encountered any problems printing their labels. Lucky for me, one seller, fed back to me and told me she had none. at that point, I stopped giving the message to sellers with every payment I made. I should have thought to check here first as the response time for PayPal on emails has been taking waaaaaaaaay too long for me,

nintiendo - I know you can print labels there - and you can even pay for priority/express mail postage (with their Click n Ship) but you can't print postage for first class mail, which is mostly what I use. I can't understand why USPS hasn't expanded their service because they sure would do us all a big favor. I wouldn't even mind paying them a small monthly fee for that. Anyway, that's why I have to stick with Paypal.

This has been mentioned, but go to www.usps.com and get Priority etc.. labels there. You have to fill in the info yourself but it's better than standing in line at the PO and then getting postage.

For those of you who use First Class only or whatever, just find a few extra mins in your schedule and see if that will work. Paypal isn't known (or eBay for that matter) for running smoothly all the time.

Although, with their CONSTANT changes (these changes will actually be good) to traditionally unbroken things, we should expect this many times in the future.

eBay cares about the seller's money, not the sellers' who actually made eBay - my complaint for the day
