Fenton Crest Identification Help

It looks like Charleton. I do not know the name - or if there is one. Charleton bought "blanks" form a variety of glass manufacturers (Westmoreland, Fenton, and others) and "hand decorated" the decorations - rose in this case. I know Charleton was in business in the 1950s. The Charleton items I have are marked with a paper label - "Charleton Hand Decorated" and a hand written number. The Fenton item I have (with gold painting on the crest) that is Charleton is not marked Fenton and dates to the 1950s.

Heres some current ebay auctions for Charleton (some of the auctions are not similar to yours - but some are Fenton items decorated by Charleton).

Hi,
Cindy, there is no mark on the piece. Thanks for the info regarding CHARLETON using Fenton blanks. That explains alot! And, thanks for the auctions. I appreciate all the help.

Heres a photograph of my Charleton item showing markings. It is very much like yours - maybe the sides are flared a little more?

CHARLETON was an active (in the 1950s) "trade name/trademark" used by Abels, Wasselberg and Company, 23 East 26 Street, New York (notice the AWCO at the bottom of the paper label) for decorative accesories and table lamps.

Fenton Crest Identification Help

My Fenton books says that several companies did hand decoration on Fenton pieces. "Most notable was Abels, Wassreburg & Co. whose 'Charlteon' flowers adorned Peach Creat and other pieces....Another company that purchased Fenton blanks was Beth Weissman whick bought Silver Crest and decorated it with pink flowers and blue bows reminiscent of Westmoreland's decorations."

There are about 4 pages which show all kinds of handpainted items, including 5 variations of your pretty bowl. I think you can safely say your item is Fenton and was done by one of those two decorators. The book also mentions most of the outside decorations were done from the 40's and into the mid 50's.

Correcting MY typo (and only mine). wasselberg=wasserberg (according to my reference - copyright 1956 - that lists the company name, address, and trademark).

Well, you know they do say that nothing is ever really erased. My theory is that all those deleted messages go to the Bermuda Triangle, along with the lost socks. Stands to reason that every so often a storm would hit there and blow stuff back out. If we happened to be around during a hurricane, we'd probably see a ton of mismatched socks blowing around in the air before they fell back in. Now messages, being lighter than socks, wouldn't all fall back in. The winds could blow them out into space. Suppose a communications satellite sccoped some up -- its computers would just naturally send them back to where they started, don't you think?
