Beware of fake 32gb micro sd card on ebay!!!!!!

Right now these are one of the hottest item counterfeitors like to make. It is sold as a 32gb micro sd card, but in fact they are about 2gb in storage and prgrammed to look like you have 32gb in storage, even if you put it in a phone or use a micro sd reader the phone or computer when you check the capacity you will see that you have 32gb in storage, thats where they get you. After you put in more than 2 gb of data on the fake 32gb card it will start to delete or corrupt old data and you will in fact LOSE valuable data if you dont watch out for this. If the 32gb you bought for so cheap and wonder why, now you know. One way to check if your 32gb card is good is load data onto it (stuff thats not important) around 3 or 4 gb, and then check on the 32gb card that all the files are there. that is the easiest way to check. there are alot of these floating around ebay, Alot of times sellers arent even aware of this. But this is also same for the consumer, when they win the auction for the 32 gb card and put it in there phone and they see the phone reads it as a 32gb card they think its all good and leave positive feedback and wont find out later because who really is going to put more than 2 gb of data in a short period of time. Im not saying all 32gb micro sd cards are bad, all i am saying is beware when you buy one of those and check it out first by doing the simple test I stated before you leave any feedback for the seller. (I have been screwed twice thats why I am writing this)

Hi,

Check this link out. This card is all over ebay. Somebody just sold 240 of these.

http://www.dhgate.com/wholesale-10pcs-32gb-micro-sd-sdhc-32g-memory/p-ff80808130978b420130a793136e6b3a.html.

I am ashamed to admit I bought 2 of these. I should know better I work in the computer field all day long.

They're still shipping them! Got one today. I have written the seller and will follow eBay guidelines. After, they "eat" enough of these maybe eBay will better police the situation. I shake my head wondering how many people never learn they have been duped. It's criminal.

I bought a fake too, trying to warn others, but ebay only allowed 5 messages per day.

it's sickening, by the time you figure out it's a fake card, you already lost some valuable pics, videos, documents, etc... because initially it seems like it's working, but after you go over the 2gb that's when it starts failing. I was able to load 20gb of data on my fake 32gb card, but most of the files won't open.

Also, because these cards cost under $20 to puchase, the sellers are counting on buyers not to go through the headaches of opening cases with ebay. Thats how they make their money!

well, my 32 gb micro sd card which arrived today only shows 488 kb after formatting, from a seller who has a 100 % favorable rating.  let's see what he has to say, if he responds.

Got ripped off too, 32gb card, anything over 2gb corrupted, stick to official brand cards.  Like everyone else, I left good feedback too soon.

Same old story... wrote a "guide" about bogus memory sticks when I got burned ages ago...

One learns the hard way there are things you SHOULD NOT BUY on eBay....

Memory sticks/cards - 90% plus are KNOCKOFFS, FAKES, or just plain complete garbage.

Batteries - another prime knockoff target, since "OEM" products are often expensive for "extra" batteries, and they are pretty easy to "copy"

"Gold", "825 Jewelry", pretty much ANY shiny thing that  might otherwise be valuable if REAL...

ANY "name brand" merchandise that is being shipped from China/HK, odds are between 99.9 and 100% it's a knockoff/counterfeit

Yep, I know, I just described a LARGE portion of "inventory" in many eBay categories, but it is what it is.

FWIW, at one point I tried helping eBay clean out the fake Memory Stick sellers - category listings were reduced almost 80% at one point, but within days, the "sellers" (ripoff artists) were right back, selling under new account names...  you can't "fix" the problem unless you truly want to stop it properly... eBay makes too much money off all the sales from these sellers, and ruins it's OWN market reputation in the process!

No wonder they don't do much about it!

Anyone familiar with the knockoff market knows it's pretty hard to stop - customs can only catch the big containers of fakes, and those once in a great while.

As long as eBay is a "channel" to send hundreds of thousands of counterfeit/fake items through the mail, one piece or a few at a time, it will continue.  There's simply a lot of money at stake!

EBay doesn't necessarily "like" this, but they are monetizing it by taking a "cut" on all the sales.  Short of posting a huge warning about the potential of buying fake/counterfeit merchandise and shutting most of the China/HK sellers down altogether, they can't possibly put a "stop" to it.  Tiffany's tried a few years ago with litigation, I don't think that went too far.

Like I mentioned, I worked with eBay to shut down fake sellers in a SINGLE item at one point, with reasonable success, but it didn't take long for "new" China/HK sellers to bubble right up and back to the same mess!  Multiply that by the hundreds of listings for memory and batteries, not to mention all the other items that are typically knocked off... it's like spitting in the ocean!

Best thing is for the buyer to BEWARE, if you DO get fake stuff, be sure to leave accurate and appropriate feedback - enough of those, and the sellers flounder, and MAYBE eBay can do something about them on a case by case basis...

Certainly doesn't help that these guys are listed as being in the United States. You'd think it'd be a little more reliable. Found a guy selling these whose entire seller feedback had been generated on the same day... Unfortunately I bought a card before I realized this.

Many of the Chinese sellers have set up "outposts", including ones in the US, so they can ship faster...

THUS, the second "aware buyer" question set needs to be "is the price 'too good to be true'?", and if it's a name brand product, how or why is a seller acquiring large quantities and selling them "so cheap".  Of course if you ask, they'll have some wacky story "explaining" it, but that also might be a clue...

Unfortuantely I had this issue today, card came out to be 12 kb!! What can I do with THAT?! Nothing...

After sending seller this message:

I bought a memory card from you, but no matter where i put it, it says there is 12 kb available. Now unless you want a case opened against you on Ebay, Paypal AND negative feedback, i suggest you refund me my money

I got full refund IMMEDIATELY.

I have two of these right now. The seller of the first one refunded my money with no interference. The last seller insists that it's not fake but bad.

I am now waiting for his information so that I can file a mail fraud claim with USPS.

I have bought fake minis and micros. There's not a whole lot you can do with 2GB cards.

I use H2testw to see if the card is legitimate. (This also works for flash drives). It can be found here and features German and English instructions- http://www.heise.de/download/h2testw.html

Got me too... Just because of these situations ebay should allow you to edit feedback. Im waiting on the sellers response to see what type of customer service i get.

I have also bought 2 of these cards then spent 2 days wondering why my files won't copy to them.

should have realised really they were only £10.50 each.

I have contacted the seller to warn him that my feedback will be very negative and will be opening a case against him unless a full refund is received.

I had this same issue! I ordered a generic 32gb micro sd card for use with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.  I had issues immediately! First I installed it in the phone and transferred all my media to the card.  All the data became corrupt and i ended up loosing at least the last 2-3 weeks of media since my last backup to my pc including the only copies of videos and pics of my 2 month old daughter.  I then could not get the adapter to work on my pc and had to use an older adapter I found laying around.  I formatted the card and transferred my last backed up files to it and it seemed to work fine for 2 days.  I reached about 2.6gb worth of files on the card (i transferred a back up containing pics and other media I've collected from phone to phone over 5yrs) and then I noticed videos and pics no longer working or showing up in the gallery or files list.  I contacted the seller and havn't heard anything back thus far but Im very disappointed and learned my lesson!  LEAVE GENERIC SD CARDS ALONE! I ordered a 32gb Sandisk Ultra class 10 micro sd.  It's better to pay the extra money for quality, performance, and a trustworthy name then to loose priceless moments of my babies life because of a bad sd card!

I can tell you from vast expereince of the Chinese market and especially suppliers in the Shenzhen area that there are significant numbers of counterfeit cards out there certainly in the Sandisk Brand. Let me make it clear that if they are for sale for under £20 on Ebay the chances of them being fake are extremely high because the cost price of the real thing is such that you would lose money selling below £20.

If you are a retailer word of advice is before you buy you need to see all the technical documents for CE certification and these need to be from a recognised test house like Intertek or SGS otherwise your being scammed because if they can counterfeit the card they can certainly counterfeit the paperwork.

They got me too!!! Wasted 2 days trying to work out what was going on when my phone was showing 32gb in the SD card memory, luckily I tried to load 20gb of mp3 as soon as i got the card most people will not notice they have a problem until their photo`s, video`s etc. exceed 2 gb so that could be months for most people. Ebay should ban anyone caught selling these because it needs to be a "Trusted" marketplace.

I got burnt too with this scam. When transferring info my card started to give trouble between the 4 - 5 gb mark, and I lost quite a bit off data as a result of that.
