BTY AA Nimh Batteries

Aug 6, 2008 1:11 AM
The BTY brand of Nimh batteries that are being sold on ebay by various sellers (most from Hong Kong) are not very good. The AA batteries are supposed to be 2500 mah but are in fact usually about 800 mah (or less) and are not useful in digital cameras (or anything else for that matter). I have purchased a total of 48 of the BTY 2500 batteries and so far have only 4 out of the 48 that are even usable. Those 4 are about 1500 mah (still nowhere near the advertised 2500 mah). If you are tempted to buy the BTY batteries I suggest that you charge and test them immediately upon receipt and return them at once if they are no good. It's a hassle to return them if you have to send them back to Hong Kong. Holliday 080806

by the way, go for powerex 2700 mah if you need batteries. i have a 4-pack that lasts for 1000 shots in nikon l15 or 600 shots in olympus sp550.

I also purchased 12 of thse light green no-brand-name AA Nimh 2600mah and they were worse than the BTY. My tests have shown them to be ony 85mah to 100mah, nowhere near the 2600mah stamped on the batteries. My advice to all is to avoid all the AA and AAA Nimh that are coming from Hong Kong until this gets resolved. Holliday 080826 0057

same experience here. Bought 8 AAA-1000mah and 8 AA-2600mah. My Maha C9000 would not even charge the AAA's but I finally got my Lacrosse charger to test them. Average was around 150mah. The AA's would charge in the Maha, but only tested to 450mah. I just threw them all away. I've had good luck with some no-name green batteries, and the Juice nimh seem fine although not quite up to the ratings. Anyone tried the Tenergy brand batteries? I have a Tenergy charger which works well.

I have used the Tenergy batteries since 2003 and the 2500mah AAs are all excellent. They are usually more expensive than those BTY or No-Name Greens (from Hong Kong) on ebay but it looks like they are worth it since most of the Hong Kong Nimh batteries are useless. I recommend the Tenergy batteries and right now they have a sale on 24 AA 2600mah for $32.99 with free shipping, about $1.37 each without taxes. (Go to All-Battery.com).

Same experience with BTY batteries here. They don't hold a charge for very long. Too much hassle to return, but it makes me skittish to deal with Hong Kong sellers. My experience with domestic vendors on ebay for rechargeables has been 100% positive. But my favorite two aren't around, at lest for now.

You need to read the thread pinned to the top of this board and then go to Trust & Safety to complain.

Unless you're going to write a guide about how to complain effectively.

I think the topic of this board is REVIEWS & GUIDES.
This was a review of the products on ebay, namely AA and AAA batteries.

I also submitted this information to ebay's Trust & Safety and they told me that there was nothing they could do about it.

If you are having a problem with this "review" of bad AA and AAA batteries, your time would be best spent by writing a review of your own about these defective products.

These defective AA and AAA Nimh batteries have been on ebay since at least Sep 2007 and they are still there! How many more people need to be cheated before the community is aware of the problem?

This board is how to write a review or guide. Not a place to post your review.

And, if you know the batteries are no good, then why would you keep buying them - especially if they have to be shipped from Hong Kong?

The only solution I see to the problem is for ebay to make all the sellers in China sell to the Chinese ebay market.

I stand corrected. However, the title of this board is confusing and it looks like many others also thought that this board was FOR "Reviews and Guides". The title should be changed to "About Reviews and Guides" or "How To Write Reviews and Guides" to avoid confusion.

I think the category titles are really unclear for many of the topics on this board and should be changed. For example, how many people would think to look under a title like "Trust and Safety" for a review of a product?
I think the original authors of the categories and titles meant well but should now go back through them and rename them to be more meaningful and appropriate.

As I mentioned before, I didn't know that the batteries were no good before I purchased them. Why "especially if they have to be shipped from Hong Kong?" - Why Not? There are plenty of good (excellent) products coming out of Hong Kong and the shipping is usually not much more than (and maybe less than) similar products from stores in the USA. In fact, the total cost of the product including shipping from Hong Kong is usually cheaper than some USA products before shipping and taxes. (See my post about AA batteries on the "Trust and Safety" board).

bought some BTY batteries, granted.. they are the worse NIMH
batteries, made in china w/ no quality control.

the green ones are better, hold charges, only about 1 out of every 5
are defective. but the working ones are pretty good.
