many of you have seen "UL Listed" on everything for safety sake and to satisfy and questions the insurance adjuster may have after a loss. this year i bought a few products that would never be sold in a regualr store but are allowed on ebay. i have no problem because i am a tech head geek and make upgrades, to the avaerage consumer some products are fires waiting to happen. two examples i site a steamer and a powered antenna. if you buy anything in this country that has a resistence electrical heater must have a cord that is HPL/N qualified. that means the wire can get hot but the insulation will not catch fire or melt. the steamer i purchased had a regular cord for a 1200 watt resistive load. the item said "UL Listed" on the label, but probably would be importd through regular retail channels. check you waffle iron, flat iron and embossed in the rubber insulatuin you'll see HPxx. next is the tv antenna i bought with a rotor controller. inside there is no fuse. just a straight shot AC supply to the primary of the transformer! never in a million years would UL approve such a thing. for one there is no fuse among other technical issues. this item is a fire waiting to happen especially all the other hanky-panky inside. i think eBay should always compell the seller to sate that it is UL Listed and that the components are indeed matching that criteria for new and consumer items that could be a hazard. so when buying that question be clear and difinable.
