You think I'd ask that question in person? Get real.

There is a legend that old-timers tell of one particular summer when it got so hot that the corn in the fields stared popping right off the stalks. The cows and pigs thought it was a snow blizzard and they lay down and froze to death.

Hi Girl...

Don't worry this is a rather large planet and the cold we are having is equall to the heat translated in other parts of the planet.

The total figured out now globally=a plus set...otws why are all the glacier regions losing more than they gain.

There are epic periods of warm/cold...we happen to be in a warming period.

Over 1/4 million year the Earth was a lot hotter than it is now and we had NO effect back then since we weren't around.

World wide changes WILL happen with or w/o man's effect on Earth.

Hiway I am PROOF :)

if this is the "warming" period i dont want to see the "cooling" period. now that gas is cheaper maybe i'll run my car constantly in the hopes of bringing back global warming...

A great piece of computational graphics by Jeff Id showing Arctic Sea ice in the satellite era has been posted on YouTube. Read the background and find the link here on Anthony Watts' site: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/05/31/arctic-sea-ice-time-lapse-from-1978-to-2009-using-nsidc-data/#more-8121 Note that the Great Lakes are included at the lower right.

i will take hot weather over cold weather any day. i HATE the cold with a passion. in fact, i wish the environmentalists would get off their soapboxes so we could have global warming back. it was too $#%$ing cold this winter!

McLean, J. D., C. R. de Freitas, and R. M. Carter (2009), Influence of the Southern Oscillation on tropospheric temperature, Journal of Geophysical Research, 114, D14104, doi:10.1029/2008JD011637.

“The surge in global temperatures since 1977 can be attributed to a 1976 climate shift in the Pacific Ocean that made warming El Niño conditions more likely than they were over the previous 30 years and cooling La Niña conditions less likely” says corresponding author de Freitas.

We have shown that internal global climate-system variability accounts for at least 80% of the observed global climate variation over the past half-century. It may even be more if the period of influence of major volcanoes can be more clearly identified and the corresponding data excluded from the analysis.”

For those of you who haven't been watching, after years of successfully deflecting and stalling requests for data that should be in the public domain, tree ring data from an obscure part of Russia, which has been used by the Hockey Team in literally dozens of papers claiming global warming in the twentieth century, has finally been revealed.

Not only is this area represented by a dozen tree ring samples to the exclusion of many more dozens, it turns out that one particular tree, if included or not included in the analysis, has an oeverwhelming effect on the calculations.

Is this fraud?

Is this funny? or phony?

Is it malfeasance, conspiracy, or scientific flatulence?

(if indeed it is not blasphemous to use science even peripherally in this context)

Start with the layman's explanation:

".....it turns out that one particular tree, if included or not included in the analysis, has an oeverwhelming...."

Is that the LEMON TREE that Trini Lopez always sang about when I was much younger??

In reference to the post about the age of this post...LOL, we chat about the age of the Universe, Sun-Earth regime, light years, Goldy's youth, etc...so a few years-old post is not so bad!

Albert Gore, Jr., who allegedly received a (barely) passing grade in Introductory Earth Science, his only college science class, is considered by some to be a modern Messiah and tireless proponent of saving the Earth from global Warming:

Conan: Now, what about … you talk in the book about geothermal energy …

Al: Yeah, yeah.

Conan: and that is, as I understand it, using the heat that’s generated from the core of the earth …

Al: Yeah.

Conan: … to create energy, and it sounds to me like an evil plan by Lex Luthor to defeat Superman. Can you, can you tell me, is this a viable solution, geothermal energy?

Al: It definitely is, and it’s a relatively new one. People think about geothermal energy — when they think about it at all — in terms of the hot water bubbling up in some places, but two kilometers or so down in most places there are these incredibly hot rocks, ’cause the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot …

you can find a link to the video here:

If the current research results are correct and we are entering a multi-year period of quiet sun comparable to the Maunder Minimum, with an accompanying period of global cooling, then "hot enough" may take on some nostalgic significance.

On top of recent data from Voyager that has confounded the expectations of solar scientists, it's shaping up to be an interesting year.

For those interested in the science, the CLOUD experiment at CERN has provided strong evidence of a link between cosmic rays and cloud formation.

Nigel Calder gives a good introduction and background:

Seven or so years later, the doom and gloom predictions have not materialized and the AGW crowd are increasingly desperate that the hundreds of millions of  taxpayer dollars that support their jetsetting lifestyles is endangered.

Meanwhile the administration pursues a policy of destroying our energy infrastructure while the billions of dollars they injected into green schemes--complete with maximum photo ops--has disappeared.
