Do I leave no feedback or neg? WWYD?

Nov 2, 2009 12:34 PM
Here`s the story........needed a new keyboard, found one and placed an opening bid. I had my max bid at $11.67 and won auction at that exact amount from a seller with 5 feedback. Paid immediately. Then I looked at the bid history because I thought it was odd that I won at my exact highest bid. The item was bid up by a zero feedback bidder. Checked sellers other auction which was easy because they are a small seller and found that this zero feeback under bidder was also involved in many of their other auctions for odd things like decorations and jewelry and my keyboard.

Long story short....I trully believe that there is shill bidding going on with this seller. I hit the report button on several of their auctions but ebay has done nothing. They are also using Media mail to ship all their items including this keyboard, jewelry, a purse etc...which is mail fraud.

I paid, they shipped, item received in fine condition except the keyboard has a couple wonky keys. It would cost me like $7.00 to ship it back (NOT using media mail) so it really isn`t worth a return to me.

This has been bothering me for several days and I haven`t left them feedback yet because I don`t know what to do. If ebay would do their job it wouldn`t be left to me to try to stop these fraudulent sellers. I am also a small seller and don`t take negs lightly in fact, I don`t think I have ever left a neg before. Sorry this was so long and thanks for taking the time to read it. Any advice welcome. Thanks! Kathi

You got your keyboard at the highest you were willing to pay. It has issues that make it SNAD. You choose not to ship it back.

The schilling thing would be easy for eBay to figure out but not so much for you.

Personally, I'd be shipping the keyboard back but, that's me. I just wouldn't leave them any feedback since you choose to keep it.

The (0) bidder has bid 100% with this seller.

I'd tell the seller that the keyboard arrived in unsatisfactory condition and that I'd like to return it. Id also ask the seller if they will give a full refund including return shipping since this was their error. If they refused, I'd neg them and return the keyboard.

Do any of the other items show any bid retractions? I would think it would be kind of dicey to shill on several items without exceeding the other bidders' max on some of them. Once you've outbid the other bidders' max, the only way to back out is to retract...

I think I'd report the suspected shill bidding to eBay - after all, you have no way to confirm with 100% certainty, but they do, assuming they'll follow up. Which is, I guess, a big assumption.

I don't think I'd go so far as to leave feedback based on 100% certainty that the seller engaged in shill bidding. Would probably just leave it alone. I also wouldn't go so far as to spend good money returning the keyboard on my dime if the ending price was still good (in spite of competitive bids) and the mdse what I expected.

I got a box recently that had been sent media mail. It had a sticker on it saying that the post office had opened it to verify that the contents qualified for media mail.

It was a dvd box set for a complete series with 100+ discs, so it was a 12x12x12 box and was very light.

Sometimes they do check.

There is an item in their completeds (necklace) with a bid retraction from the zero feeback bidder.

I did report them to ebay, several times, using the report button on the auctions. I did it many days ago and nothing has been done.

No, in fact the ID that OP is accusing started the bidding on a couple of items. Their opening Bid contained a higher Bid as if they were Bidding by Proxy.

tough to accuse someone of Shill Bidding when they clearly started out to win an item.

They are also using Media mail to ship all their items including this keyboard, jewelry, a purse etc...which is mail fraud.

It is also clearly stated in the listing. If you didn't want them to mail by Media why did you bid?

All right....I will just keep the keyboard and choose to leave no feedback.

I can`t prove that there is shill bidding even though it looks quite obvious and truthfully I did not notice that the item was going to be shipped via media mail until I checked the tracking info after I hadn`t received it for several days.

Thank you to all of you that offered advice. I am not a moron or a vindictive person. I simply wanted to try to protect us sellers who strive to do the right thing by reporting a seller who is not. Kathi

I would report them to the post office for mail fraud, a keyboard clearly is not an item that would qualify for media mail. I just ran into the same problem too and reported them for it. They are defrauding the post office, no wonder prices keep going up. If many people are doing this it would be a big loss for the PO, so this hurts everybody because we have to pay higher postage.
