New seller... help!

Nov 27, 2009 6:24 PM
Hi there... I'm a casual buyer off ebay recently and I wanted to sell some things.

First of all, I have a couple of questions about shipping and payments I hope to get answered:

- Would I be able to fit a TV season (DVD box set) into a small flat rate box? What's the best way to ship such an item?

- How much does it cost to ship such an item and what other payment do I need to make to Ebay? Do you suggest I print labeling from Ebay as well?

Overall, what is the total cost of my shipping?!

Sorry for the jumble of questions, but I'd appreciate them being answered! Thanks! :D

Whether it fits depends on the packaging - you can pick up one of the flat rate boxes in the Post Office to check the, They cost $4.95 if you buy postage over the counter and $4,80 if you purchase postage through Paypal or USPS Click-n-Ship, or any of several other postage companies.

As to payments, you will be giving them a listing fee, a final value fee, and youw ill be paying Paypal a percentage of the total amount the buyer pays you including shipping.

Also, in the media categories, you need to use the shipping calculator in order to charge more than $3 shipping. Flat rate is maximum $3.

You need to figure all that before you list.

The small flat rate box is the size that holds a VCR tape. It's not wide enough to cover a DVD. Depending on how many DVD's are in the set, you can ship parcel post and that depends on the total weight of the package including packing materials, or you can ship by regular/medium flat rate box at 10.85. Again, providing the set fits (usually will).

I recommend getting a digital scale from USPS.com site. They can go up to 10 pounds in weight and are very accurate. Flat rate shipping doesn't have a weight issue, but parcel post and first class depend on the weight to get the shipping costs.

Printing labels from eBay will take you to the paypal site. It's super easy to print your labels from there.
It also has the delivery confirmation which you will need if anything goes wrong.

Additional payments to eBay will depend on what you sell an item for...FVF's. They will send you an invoice for payment when the fees are due.

Media Mail would be the cheapest. I think it's around $2.95. Here's a guide that explains what qualifies as Media Mail.
