Restocking Fee

Restocking Fee
Jul 23, 2012 09:08 PM

There's something blowing in the wind with our good ole buddy Ebay.  If you revise a listing now, such as for quantity, and you look at the revision history it states "Restocking fee from __ to NO".

Guess if a buyer returns and item and the packaging is damaged or missiing and you state in your return policy you will charge a restocking fee it's now not going to be permitted.  The seller takes another hit.

I'm going to have to talk with my accountant and see if I'm my own business man any more or a contract employee to Ebay.  Things change when you're a contract employee.  I mean I can't make my own policies for my own business.

Hi,  Ebay is not charging you a restocking fee, you can charge your buyers this fee if they return an item.

I spoke with an ebay rep about this exact issue about a month ago. Was told to revise my return policy to state specifically what, when and why a restocking fee would be charged. They sugested i charge the fee because of buyers not paying attention to specific details...ie...clothing measurements and detailed item speifics.

I received the same unwanted gift from eBay last night when I added a 14-day return policy to a Buy It Now listing. When I called support, I was told not to worry since my return policy clearly states I do charge a restocking fee for any non-misrepresentation return. But I told the rep NOT GOOD ENOUGH and that I don't want this unwanted piece of false info attached to any of my listings after I update them. Buyers are simply going to be confused and angry with me standing by my restocking fee if they have seen "Restocking fee from __ to NO" in the listing's revision history.

He gave me a credit for the few listings that I would have to take down and relist fresh and promised to escalate the issue to technical support.

At least when I went into one listing later to update just the description (with it already having the return policy in place), it did not add the restocking apparition. But still, eBAY DEFINITELY NEEDS TO FIX THIS TO PREVENT IT FROM CONTINUING TO HAPPEN!
