How about Holiday Shipping times?!?!

I ship next day on all of my items via USPS First Class mail and usually get 5 stars for my effort but during the holiday season I get penalized for the slow down at the post office even though I still get the orders out the same or next day after they are placed.

I think that during the holiday season the 4 day limit should extend to about 6 or 7 days to make up for things that are out of our control. People do not want to pay for Priority shipping on $2 worth of screws.

If the seller can prove they shipped within 1 day, that's all it should take. USPS scans it when they receive it.

Transit time should not enter into the equation. Period. How many different shipping services do you think are out there to choose from? How many buyers are willing to pay for overnight shipping? Practically ZERO.

While I applaud eBay's decision to offer auto 5 star for shipping costs for free shipping, AND its decision to offer auto 5 star for fast shipping, I am disappointed to see that they are requiring 4 day delivery also. This is a disconnect from reality again IMO.

altho many parcels track quickly, tracking numbers are delivery confirmation, and many times my media mail parcels don't track untiul delivered...and that can be 2 weeks. also, i find when i insure for $300 with usps, nothing tracks until actually delivered....high insurance is sorted differently. i would have to stand in line at the post office to buy that postage to get instant scanning...but for an auto 5 stars....it would be worth it!!!

USPS "tracking" also depends on the post office. They are not required to scan upon receipt so many of the smaller post offices (mine included) only scan on delivery of the package. It is not really tracking but is actually "delivery confirmation"

exactly!!! but...ebay should award a seller the auto 5 if the package tracks within so many days. if you buy the postage at your post office it will show as accepted immediately. if you buy online, they won't scan on mailing. it is sometimes a lose lose situation!

Yes, I we are aware that business days are Monday - Friday.
If I ship an item paid for on Sunday on Monday and it goes to say Alaska, ESTIMATED say priority mail is 3 days. That is ESTIMATED!! It would have to be there by Thursday (not going to happen) Even express if I mailed today they would not get until Friday according to post office site and again, they do not guarantee that 100%,. That is not a guaranteed. If post office faces issues, such as bad winter weather, hurricanes, holidays then that 3 days would NEVER make it. Even normal times over 1/2 of mine do not make it from NC to California in 3 days. Overnight is so expensive no one would buy items if they had to pay that amount.

Ebay does anyone of the decision makers in your company sell??? have they ever sold anything?? I would assume NOT. They seem to have no idea that we do not control Post office, We do not control what carriers charge, we do not control insurance rates which we now have to add in order to protect ourselves. We also do not control how long it takes post office to get an item to its destination.

I took a package to post office to see just what people knew. I took my own independent survey, some would not respond but found 10 people who would. I handed them the box. I then said this is a 1 pound box going to Hawaii, do you have any idea how much it would cost to ship this Priority Mail. (most said $3.00 or $3.50) Do you have any idea how much it would cost to insure this box to hawaii for $40.00 (None had any idea most thought all packages were insured at no charge) Do you know how long it would take this to get to Hawaii? Most guessed 8-10 days.

Ebay without looking ask yourself these questions and answer which of these DO WE THE SELLERS CONTROL?? All we control if how long it takes us to get items out. (yes, some sellers charge excessive but ebay encourages that by giving free 99 cents listing fees. Seller would have to gouge on shipping to sell at that rate and stay afloat.

I am astounded 4 days.. again I challenge ebay to go to their local post office and mail a package from there. (not in a bulk ebay mailing in each kind of mail in box and see how long it takes me to get item in NC.

Unbelievable is only word I can use to end this.

. Mine only scans upon delivery unless you physically go in and PAY note I said PAY for the postage THERE which means you then have to pay more and put into ebay system manually

Maybe ebay can change postal procedure.

Hi hhpalmbeach

thanks for your post. In instances in which you offer free shipping and we have checkout data that proves the buyer did not pay for shipping you will receive an automatic 5 stars for the Ship Cost DSR. I understand it can be challenging for carriers to deliver packages coast to coast so in these situations you may need to select a different carrier/shipping service. It may not make sense for you to do this based on your business and the items you are shipping. If choose not to meet the requirements for automatic 5 stars for Ship Time this does not mean you will not or can not still receive 5 stars for Ship Time. If you continue to offer your sellers great service you will continue to receive 5 star ratings as you do today!

Many of us believe that eBay is setting a standard that will eventually be reflected in our scores. If buyers see that eBay considers 4 days as excellent shipping time then they will consider any time over this as bad and it will be reflected in the scores that they leave manually.

I have asked in another post why the handling time and delivery time can't be scored separately. The buyer could leave a score (or make it automated) for the handling time and then let them score the delivery service provider (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc) in a different place that wouldn't affect the seller. Then that score could be shown to buyers when they are choosing which service they want to use when they are checking out. Or it could be shown somewhere else.

Sellers should not be held responsible for something that is out of their control. This is going to be very apparent during the holiday season when all shipping slows down. My scores went down last year even though I didn't change my shipping practices at all.
