Well, she started it!

Nov 23, 2009 1:22 PM
So, I was doing some shopping today, and the lady behind me in line at the cash register asked me about my purse. I said that yes, it is a Coach Carly, and when she asked, I told her I got it at the Coach Store in Shreveport. At which point, she proudly displayed her hideous Foach, and bragged that she had gotten it at a local flea market for $20.

I explained to her in a neutral tone that her item was counterfeit, illegal, and most likely made in a sweat shop. Well, needless to say, she was furious. She sputtered that fakes are the same as the real thing, but just cost less. I, again in a neutral tone, told her that that is not the case. One is legal, and the other is not. I also suggested that she contact the FBI if she has more questions about it.

Before I could even get that last part out, she flounced off in a huff, and the other lady in line and I got a good laugh.

I readily acknowledge that Coach is a mid-tier designer brand, but I like their stuff. I don't have the funds to carry an LV or Hermes or a high end bag like that. I've carried Coach for over 20 years, and I hate how the counterfeiters have diluted the brand so much.

I don't usually preach to people about fakes, but when they give me an opening like that, I just can't resist! :)

Bravo!! I hate the fact that some people are proud about their counterfeit handbag.

haha--I love stories like that. I'm a teacher, and half of the aides in my school aren't speaking to me because I told one of them that the "purse party" she is having is illegal, gave her articles explaining the ties to terrorism, sweat shops, etc. Their attitude is that they can't afford the "real thing" because they don't make as much $$$ blah blah blah. My response is always the same: I would rather proudly carry a beautiful "authentic whatever" than a cheap piece of illegal counterfeit garbage. HOWEVER--you should be careful--you never know when someone might get crazy and attack you physically. Really.

Nicely suggested. Too bad it was missed for the flouncing.

My second-hand Vuittons are cheaper than new Coaches. I'll stick to previously-loved. :-x

I don't buy that financial excuse, either. There are plenty of good brands out there that are legal and inexpensive. Like Fossil, which I love. I have a couple of their bags in leather, and those things are indestructible!

And you're right. People do get crazy over stuff like this.

People think you're being "uppity" when you let them know the deficit of carrying counterfiets.

What I hear from people is........"Well, mine's not real......but it's close enough and alot cheaper"

........and like walk-unafraid.........it always starts because they've noticed the bag I'm carrying.

My response is........"Save your money.......buy the real thing.........and you'll never want another counterfiet"

My entire family now is disgusted by counterfiets.......but it wasn't always that way. I've successfully converted them and they make a bigger deal of others carrying counterfiets now than I ever thought about. LOL!!

Beware the ex-counterfiet carrier who has converted to authentic...........they're like ex-smokers.......

......and I'm always proud to see it

:-p

I don't understand why people bother with Coach fakes anyway because Coach is rather affordable to begin with!

Here, Here for the second hand Vuittons!!
When I have discussions about fake versus authenic, a lot of women don't understand buying a second hand bag. They would rather have a "new" fake. :(

So they'd rather have a brand new Yugo rather than a well-loved Mercedes? Que estupido.
