I have my fathers stamps and they are stored in mint files and some of the stamps were  stuck to the paper and i tried carefully to get them out and some of the gum scraped off the stamps  did this damage the value and are they  still worth trying to sell ?.

Anytime that the gum is disturbed on a mint stamp the value is in danger.  The exception to this rule would be if the stamp was issued without gum.  Good luck

It probably doesn't matter as I would guess they are all 1930's and later U.S. sheets.  Except for some of the high values and sought after sheets you can only get around 70% of face value.

They are better used for postage.
