Page of the day

As many of you know I have been unable to update my site for nearly three months now. I have still been scanning and adding

some very nice items as well as printing and remounting hundreds of pages. I'm not sure when I will be able to upload to the site and it is starting to drive me nuts. Just to much to remember and many new additions lost in the pages. I have been expanding most all of the early European pages. Often expanding one page into three. The great amount of color and other variations are crowding the Scott Specialty pages badly. That combined with full size scans I think will make for a much nicer presentation.

It just occured to me that I could do some stamp of the day or page of the day postings like I have done in the past.

Here is a page I recently completed adding 3 of the stamps.

I think it's ne of the prettiest pages out there.

Also I completed the next set of Greek airmails in mint which are also quite beautiful.

Greece have produced some really attractive stamps in their time. It's good to see you posting some more pages from your fabulous collection.

Cobbie Thanks for the input. As I said I have been expanding my early pages for European and some Latin American countries. I've been tossing the Scott Specialty pages and replacing them with Steiner pages that I have added many more spaces to and rearranged sets in a way I like better. In most albums the early issues were crammed onto pages and I feel the more important stamps get lost or are not given there due space.
I'm attaching the 3 new pages I've replaced for my old second page for Germany with.
I basically just turned the first 5 pages for Germany into 9.

Since I can only attach two at a time, I'll post the third in a follow-up post.
The new scans can be enlarged quite a bit with ctrl + and I think will give enough detail to satisfy most people. Some of the shades unfortunately do not show up as well as in person.

It look like the board is limiting pics to 300 pix so I don't know how good the scan willl be here.

Here's a page of the day featuring a well known tyrant.
It is one of the new pages I've made up for Belgium.
I remade most of the first 19 pages adding color types and combining like sets on the same page instead of having them spread out over several pages.
New pages can be seen HERE
Also there are several new additions to Belgium Semi-Postals

Ooops, sorry for the confusing double image post. This attachment thingy seems pretty clunky and I'm having a hard time getting use to it.

After some thought I will try and post a page everyday. If I don't have a special page I have just finished, I will just start through the alphabet on my A-Z index. Starting with "A" I'm going to post either the first page or favorite page of each country listed. For countries with large Semi, Air etc segments I'll show them on subsequent days.

So first off here is may favorite page for Aden

Todays page is the first page for Alaouites

Please excuse the nasty 4th stamp. I don't usually let such damaged stamps in the collection but hey it's a space filler to complete a first page and marked for replacement. HERE are the rest of the pages for the short lived mandate, to be replaced by stamps ofLatakia.

Note: I'm only showing countries I have scanned now. Hopefully someday I can fill in most of the gaps.
I have most all of the countries and areas on some type of pages (except for very new countries). Usually they are either yet to weak to put up or need to be put on more uniform pages.
For Example Syria which I do not have scanned is fairly complete. That collection is on Minkus Specialty pages up into the mid 1970s. It is one that is close to the top of the list of new pgaes to be made. Same thing for Turkey but the pages I have are of 4 different types and will be a pain to transfer because much is NH.

I'll have a couple nice pages of the day from Panama. A trading partner for Latin America found a dozen of the stamps I wanted most for Panama, completeing the 3 and fourth page except for one lesser value stamp.

Let me know if you'd like specialized pages for Turkey... I'm about half way done with my revamp (in the computer) and would be happy to send you the file when it's ready. Of course, you'd be a lot less complete on my pages than on Scott or Steiner. :)

Bill No doubt your pages are much superior but I'm not going into Turkey as deeply as you. I have Scott Spec pages to 1940 and will just continue with Steiner to 1984.

BTW I could not figure out where to change that SMTP server port.

Todays page is from Albania , a country I find hard to get excited about. The first of the regular issues are pricey overprinted Turkish stamps that are heavily forged. I don't have any and they are on the lowest priority on my list of what I need. The page today shows the first two sets of both Semi Postal and Airmails

About what I expected from you whimpy 'collect by the numbers' types... :) I just blew my stamp budget twice over at PIPEX with A&D who (horrors!) had nearly everything I needed for Thrace. (I try to hit these shows with a country that no one stocks so I can leave without spending much... Who knew that A&D would live up to their reputation!)

When you bring up properties on your email account, click on the button marked 'More Settings' or similar, then go to the Advanced tab. There you should be able to change the port used for SMTP. Call me next week (Tues-Thurs) during the day and I can potentially talk you through it with a computer in front of me...

I just received the last stamp I needed to complete this page for Dominican Republic. Which makes it my page of the day. It is actually my first page for DR. There are a couple earlier sets but they are very pricey, redundant, seldom seen and plain ugly. So I'm not interested in collecting them.

I did not get around to posting a page of the day yesterday so here's a whole bunch of pages. I just got done updating my Germany regular issues. I've split them into two groups/index's. 1st one is Germany (Regular issues 1872-1948)
The second is Germany (Regular issues 1949-1999) Which brings Germany up to the year 2000.
Shown is the first page of second index which is the first page of Federal Republic

zgs Thanks for the recent contributions.

A couple pages today from Panama. I've been working on Central America lately with pretty good success thanks to a great trading partner who specializes in Latin America. The other day he sent me all of the stamps in mounts on the two pages. I should be receiving the missing stamp on the second page as he made a mistake and sent the wrong stamp. Panama has a lot of beautiful stamps and there are still a lot I need. I think the ones I just received are my favorites of all of them.

Hiya Rich Yep, I agree! The single color ones are very nice but it's really hard to beat those (well done) old bi-color engraved stamps.

I have Great Britain housed in a 3 volume set of Stanly Gibbons hingeless albums. I don't think I 've even scanned all of the first vol. yet.

Todays page is the first page from French Algeria. It seems the link has been dead on my site for sometime and all the scans were lost.
I've rescanned all the pages up to Independence.

I completed todays page with the top two pairs that came in the mail today. It is one of those "modern" pages that one wonders if you will ever complete. At close to $500 cat it's a pretty tough one. I think if I had an extra $1,000 laying around I could easily complete Belgian Semi Postal by major Scott number. It has always been a primary goal.

Bill Nice page! I take it, I get to select the country.
I'll try and call after I am done mowing this evening.

Heheh, no way! If you choose the country you'll pick one of the ones I haven't started on. :)

On Belgium semi-postals, I found that almost all are easy to find (1914 Alberts as the major exception), but many are still quite expensive. I think there are just too many collectors of Belgium to allow the prices to be low. The Orval Abbey issues are a pain to buy, but you see plenty of them (now the various private overprints on Orval Abbey issues on the other hand... I'm still looking for the 'double row of zig-zag perfin' ones within my budget.)

Tough to find for Belgium are the railway overprints of 1915...
