As many of you know I have been unable to update my site for nearly three months now.  I have still been scanning and adding

some very nice items as well as printing and remounting hundreds of pages.  I'm not sure when I will be able to upload to the site and it is starting to drive me nuts.  Just to much to remember and many new additions lost in the pages.  I have been expanding most all of the early European pages. Often expanding one page into three.  The great amount of color and other variations are crowding the Scott Specialty pages badly.   That combined with full size scans I think will make for a much nicer presentation.

It just occured to me that I could do some stamp of the day or page of the day postings like I have done in the past.

Here is a page I recently completed adding 3 of the stamps.

I think it's ne of the prettiest pages out there.

Also I completed the next set of Greek airmails in mint which are also quite beautiful.

Don As far as the Danzig goes I especially like some of the semi postal sets.
They are very unique and quite attractive.

For todays page I offer up the first page of Denmark
I really need to rescan the frist pages. I got tired of Denmark when I only needed 1 one stamp (major Scott #) to complete. I sold about 8 stamps from that area several years ago to a friend collector who wanted to complete it.

For today it is my first page for The Dominican Republic There are some earlier crude precursors of 4 types. I've chosen not to pursue them because they are quite scarce, pricey, ugly and easily forged.

Looks like I need to look out for that $1 set I'm missing and a few poatage dues.
Complete major Scott #s cat at under $100 used.

Todays page is the second page for Eastern Rumelia (South Bulgaria) I thought I would be filling that last $450 space this week. Unfortunately the one I received in a mixed country lot had a bogus overprint. The stamps are nearly identical to the early Turkish stamps except for the addition of an extra line of script above the curved line that reads Emp Ottoman and of course the Lion ovpt.

Instead of a page a couple stamps that I won yesterday. Both were near the top of my needlist. #'s 1a and 3 of Portugal. I was quite happy to get the pair that cats near $2,000 for just over 3% of catalog. Pretty dang good considering both squeak by with 4 margins. There was another couple thousand dollars of catalog value for the 8 stamps in the lot. I also ordered another three stamp variants for the first page of Portugal which I will show when the page is updated.

Don Thanks I'm very happy to have got those. Portugal has been a main focus for the past couple years and getting #1's and first pages completed are always a main objective. Those two and one more in the lot brings me up to 98.8% complete for regular issues through 1982 for Portugal.

Sorry, I would not be going to Wichita. Other than some exhibits, I have little interest in stamp shows anymore. From the 200 miles worth of gas money I could find stuff I need on the internet and much cheaper. Very hard for me to find stamps at shows that I need that are not way overpriced.

Would be nice to see ya but I ain't gonna goa.

After 5 days without internet I'm finally online again.

For today the first page of Portugal I have just added the #1 and #3. I had three more variants ordered but they arrived all faulty and were sent back. Note: The #4 and 5 are catalog cutouts. I have probably around 25 throughout the world collection and they are noted by the Red dot above.

Don Yep, I agree there is something about them that really appeals to me also. All Portuguese stamps were embossed up until 1880. As a result of the embossing splitting of the paper is very common. One has to be very careful when purchasing them as many sellers fail to note this defect and it can be quite irritating. One thing I find quite curious is that the registration of the embossing and inking is most always spot on. Not sure how the actual printing and embossing were done, or in what order, but they certainly knew what they were doing. As you know by now Portugal has become one of my favorite countries and I think most all their stamps up until recent times are very attractive. Right now I've reached the 98.8% completion thru 1982 on the regular issues. Almost half of the remaing stamps I need cat for under $10 but they are obviously very difficult to find.

As predicted the other day todays page is my first page of ESTONIA The 4 stamps at the top of page are the first four issued. There is a second set that are overprinted (Eesti Post), Russian stamps. Due to their high cost and being overprinted stamps that are highly forged, I do not collect them. The set of 19 has an average cost of $500 per stamp. I have started collecting the new stamps of Estonia, as they are very attractive for modern issues. When I get far enugh along with them I'll put them up on the site.

Well my "first page" of Ethiopia has pretty much the same story as Estonia.
The first 7 stamps on the page are No's 1-7. The next 1909 set starts with number 87. Between No's 7 and 87 are several different overprinted sets of the first 7, all fairly pricey, redundant and heavily forged. I have a couple but am not interested in collecting them. Of course if I saw a nice auction lot of them that was fairly complete and going cheap I would have to go for it. For the most part Ethopia has produced very attractive stamps, to my eyes anyways.
