hi, i'll go to it. i have some philatelic books by gibbs, grainger and mackay. written for adults but doesn't exclude children.

looking over the pages of singapore i do notice different perfs which i understand.

i do have some used or i would say well-worn stamps that i got out of a circuit book for 20c avg. no corners missing. i enjoy looking at the postmarks that show part of the word singapore. it tells me the stamp did it's postal duty.

i am quite aware of cto's. several books mention it. i knew these stamps were "suspect" as a young adult. if collectors like 'em, i won't "rain on their parade".

closing, i have us plate blocks of stamps i've enjoyed looking at. my fav's- kansas statehood and traffic safety from the mid-60's. if i go back into topical/thematic collecting i will collect only the one's i enjoy looking. it might be willy-nilly but i don't want to make it too restrictive.

i appreciate you sharing.

ps. i might register at stampboards site.

Probably the easiest way to find the Yellow Boxes is at the bottom of this page: eBay users Stamp Club - http://www.iusc.org/.

I think you would benefit from some reading about stamp collecting.  There is quite a bit which can be learned from the introduction to most any Scott Catalogue.  Fortunately, it doesn't have to be the latest edition.  Used copies from the last 10 years will have excellent introductions where all the information is.  It will also tell you about how to read the catalogue pages you already have.  Readng them can be tricky until you get the hang of it.  The current worldwide catalogue comes in 6 volumes so make sure if you purchase one that you get the one with Singapore.

Meanwhile, you might give a look at my Introduction to Stamp Collecting link below.  A couple of the pages on purchasing and selling stamps have not yet been updated but the rest should be pretty useful.

In the eUsc thread there is a Yellow Box which has a number of links which are helpful to learning about stamps.  (You may have to go back a few pages to locate it.)

You also may find things of interest by doing a google search on stamp collecting or philately.

hi jimbo,

I bot the pages from a scott catalog so no intro. i've been collecting used & "mint". i see a lot of mint mounted. i kind  of think it is used since it isn't flawless.

i read somewhere that unused stamps w/ hing mark is tolerated as long as the stamp is a certain age, probavly due to modern mounts.

thx for replying.

One of the pleasures of stamp collecting is the opportunity to learn a lot about geography, history, paper, printing, and postal history.  If you haven't already done it, you should study the introduction to your catalog.  There is a lot to be learned there concerning stamp collecting.  Then you can branch out to other parts of philatelic literature.  I don't know much about literature relating to Singapore but I suspect that there are some good volumes available.
