The crude forgery is being offered by a major Auction House together with a listing on another online Auction.

It purports to have a BPA certificate although it is not shown on either site,

Looks like it was done with a ball point pen :)

All know the way, but few follow it.

never said BPA certificate, I said Brandon certificate,

it showed $1150 last week, it now shows it sold for $1100,

I made a mistake when I orginally said BPA, it should have been Brandon,

CharlieTuna,

It is strange that it showed a current price of $1150 last week, possibly the top bidder cancelled his bid or it may have been above total limits and the auctioneer had to cancel a bid,

It doesn't really matter that it was $1000, $1150 or whatever it is a damaged forgery worth maybe $1 if somene is feeling generous,

David,  As you say it matters not.  It's just that Paulie made the statement it sold for 1k..  He also provided a link and I happened to look and saw the difference.  I without a doubt believe you when you say it's a fake.  I would hope the buyer will ask for a cert on the stamp but who knows.

Don,

just because it has a certificate it doesn't mean it is genuine.

There are more Niger Coast Old Calabar Provisionals with certificates than they know were actually issued,

we got more dazed and confused people here ------no wonder the philatelic community left this chatroom ---------

First ---"He also provided a link"------NO !!!! I did not  .

Second -----when you buy this  stamp at auction ,you get the Brandon  certificate ,what he is trying to say is that since it is a old cetificate ,the new owner needs to ask for a Expertization Extensions  to get it re-certification.Better from the  Royal  or BPA  for a new certificate  than sending it back to the same firm ,but thats done only on the approval of the auction house .

Paul,

why is there a need to get a new certificate.

The Royal, BPA or Brandon's certificates don't have a used by date. Once they issue a certificate it is recognised for eternity.
