Called Ebay this morning after 30+ hrs. of no sales. Got the "everything is OK....nothing is wrong with our servers" I thought that I had done something to tick off the Ebays Gods and they were punishing me. Of course nobody at Ebay told me that everyone else was having issues. Apparently something happened around the 15th of the month as that is when I saw sales....and feedback take a nose dive. I had $8500 + in sales the first 15 days of this month and just over $2000 as of today the 29th...and $800 of that was a local pickup soda machine!!! Not my normal sale item. EBAY, you are not in the business of running your own servers. From what I understand you use to outsorce your servers to companies that actually know what they are doing. Then in 2009 you deciced you could do it yourself. Your site has never been the same!!! Either learn how to take care of your servers running them yourself or go back to outsorcing that part so busuness owners like me can get back to doing what we do best, MAKING YOU MONEY.

HAS THE SITE GOTTEN EVEN WORSE IN SALES AND CUSTOMERS?
I had ended my 1500 plus listings and revising them to branch out to sell international.
I've been relisting since Friday at 1 pm..it is Tuesday 11 am Cali time and I've had one buyer who bought two bracelets for $6 total..
Just wondering is I messed up any momentum I had..or IF IN FACT ebay search has gotten worse.
I know another gal who is going 40 HOURS AT A TIME WITHOUT A SALE. She has 1000 listings.
I'm NAUSEATED again..seems ebay makes me nauseated all the time anymore..since end of April...

Dear Sellers - I am a buyer. A full time buyer. I make my living off of ebay buying for me clients. I have my searches pre-loaded and I scan through thousands upon thousands of listings each day - ebay is only a minor part of my hunt. WHEN - ebay changes my preferences, or messes up my loaded searches I DO NOT get to see your listings, or the best stuff. This is happening more and more often and at an alarming rate. I just move on. I have to. When I often look at completed auctions - I see some great stuff I MISSED because the site is so often broken. I don't know the answer, but as sellers, you need to get a bit more organized and get a unified message to ebay. Heritage and ComicLink did not just grow slowly - they rocketed in the last 5 years. If I cannot find your stuff and if I cannot rank it fast, I cannot buy it. On another note.... besides bad opinions and air, another great free thing is CARDBOARD. It is not hard to find. USE it. A lot of it.

Back to the boards.....saw a slight improvement but now it is stalled and nothing is really selling. I am not having any 30 hour outages but you know when things are not right. Still SUGGESTING on their Sellers SUGGESTION link. I do it every day now.
Now I have to get back to tweeting this out everywhere. So all the info we are putting up here gets read by the people who might be interested in what is happening to Ebay....STOCK HOLDERS. You know some of you complaining here can hit that tweet button at the top of the page. Send it out!!! @reuters @marketwatch @yahoofinacial....I come up with new tweets all the time. Below is the tweet I just sent out....and yes you can change the title as I have. I find that that make it more eye catching to a finacial institution.
AN ACTUAL TWEET.....I JUST TWEETED. I will do this several times a day changing the
#EBAYFAILS @REUTERS @MSNFINACIAL @YAHOOFINACIAL @MARKETWATCH @WSJ but always keep the #ebayfails in there. Come up with some interesting sites to tweet it to who might be interested!!!

No buy it now sales for 3 days and counting. Had one auction sale over 24 hours ago but that had been bid on days earlier so basically no sales for 3 days. That has never happened to us unless we put our ebay store on vacation and blocked users from purchasing.
What is going on? Is it because of the free listing day or have something to do with the free listing day?
Turn me back on ebay!

The last week has been the most bizarre yet. The OFF periods are much longer than usual, but the brief ON periods are busier than usual.
After a devistating 7-year low weekend, we bounced back Monday and Tuesday, but in a weird way. Both days during the business day, we had a combined 5 sales. The business day is normally our busiest period.
During business hours up to 9PM, we would go 3-4 hours, get a sale, 3-4 hours, maybe an offer and a sale. Then suddenly 14 sales in 2 hours from 14 different people, 6 offers, a number of questions from buyers, then just as quickly as it came we were off at midnight last night, and sit at 1 today at noon EST (yesterday we were are 10 at 10AM), today 0 at 10AM). So we hope we do not have the big business-hour drought we did yesterday.
When doing searches and having others do them that we know, we do come up in best match. Our traffic patterns have varied greatly also, so I think it is more lead-in traffic spikes from Google.
I sure wish they would fix this. But we have spent the down time increasing marketing for our web site. Can't just sit around and hope others do their jobs.

In the past five days, I have had a buyer on Monday for $6 total at 4:20 pm with no payment and one buyer on Tuesday at 4:14 pm that was $8 with free shipping. No buyers or questions today.
So in five days I have had two buyers total. I have made no money whatsoever with listing fees and my monthly store subscription.
If ebay would say there is a problem and give us a target day for fixing it... say.. 48 days from now..I could go..ok...I can keep charging basic necessities til then..but when I charge gas and food just so I can pay bills not knowing if they are even working on the problem..it makes it very hard.
Ebay...sellers sell on here so they can eat and buy basic necessities and pay bills. It is not a hobby. Please please fix your site. This is going on way too long.

I gotta get this out.
If this is anything other than a huge glitch and problem within ebay...it is like having a noose around one's neck. We've invested alot of money to sell items on ebay. Ebay continues to drag us out. We have to continue to pay ebay money to list in hope of selling again and earning a living. If this is something other than a huge glitch.. That would be theft of massive proportions.
My hope is that it is a glitch and will be fixed. My fear is that it is something else since no one really confesses to anything. The fact that it is only getting worse and not better is not a good sign.
My struggle is that I am having to continue to pay ebay to list with this noose around my neck. We know what a noose is designed for.
It's like holding one hostage. With a gun at your head. In order to survive financially.
In order to fix a problem, acknowledgement is KEY.
Without acknowlegement, the noose tightens and we continue to pay money for nothing. I feel I'd be better off to pay for air at this point as my return would be greater and possibly get this noose off my neck.
There are too many of us on all these different forums and other websites saying the same things. SAME CONSEQUENCES of selling on ebay.
If I run into a venomous snake. I may not know it's actual scientific name but I do know a venomous snake when I see it. I can see that it is poisonous and I would back away and choose not to pick it up.
So ebay... we may not know exactly what is going on with the site..but we do know something is very very wrong here. I'm not calling ebay a snake..but you get the idea...you know that a snake is dangerous when you see it but you may not be able to call it by its scientific name. Hence, we as sellers know that something is very wrong within ebay's search or whatever...but we can't tell you exactly what it is.
So with that in mind..ebay acknowledge that something is wrong here...whether it is within search...or whatever it is.
We all know computers break..everything breaks...nothing is invincible to issues and eventually death or failure. Ebay is not immune to being 'broken'.
And just for fun..last Friday a gal who sells the same items at same prices that I do. Sold $540 gross on that day. In the month of May when my business plummeted, she continued to increase in sales and her gross was $12000 for the month.
It is only affecting a group of sellers.

Hello! We are having problems too! I have gone from a respectable $700 - $1000 a week average sales to $100 in the last 3 weeks and today only one sale for $7. I am going to have to lay off my employee and shut down. Super sad as I have worked really hard to get to the place we are now. eBay says they haven't heard anyone else having any trouble with sales but clearly, that is a bit of a runaround. So you say "River" sales are through the roof? I haven't heard of river but didn't find anything online. Is it another sales site because we are definitely ready for a change. Thanks so much for any suggestions of where to go from here.

I feel your pain as we are in that group of sellers... the" chosen" apparently.
We are going to have to shut down if this doesn't reverse itself by the end of the month as we won't even be able to pay our fees. I have new inventory arriving tomorrow and wish I had known we were going to be out of business a couple of months ago before I ordered.
Super sad.. we have worked really hard to get where we are and to have it all taken away in a couple of months...plain rude.
We had a couple K in eBay stock that I sold to get us through the hump... Poetic justice I think.. but I'm afraid it won't be enough - I'd love to hear anyone's ideas about where to go for an alternative selling site.
We don't have UPC's as many of our items are original so Amazon is out of the question.
Good luck to all who are on the eBay "hit list"
I don't think they are ever gonna fix this.
As primarily a searcher/buyer, all of my search problems started on the evening of February 20. They changed the code that night and that broke a great many of my bookmarked searches. I've been slowly editing my bookmarks to make them work again. It's been a real hassle and an enormous waste of my time. And they got rid of a lot of options that we really rely on, like viewing the auction ending times instead of the hours/minutes left, which is about useless as it's not a fixed point in time, it's only a floating point so it can't be used as a reference point. That makes it much more difficult to know where you left off searching the previous day. These idiots don't use eBay so that haven't a clue how these changes negatively affect us! And you're right, it doesn't look like they are ever going to fix these problems which have been going on for FOUR MONTHS.

i gather that the problem is out of their control. here is my evidence.
from one article
"For all its benefits, Williams acknowledges Hadoop can be a tough technology to learn, but any blood, sweat and tears are worth it to ensure his team really understands the data platform that underpins so much of eBay. "
from another
"This type of partnership exists because, despite all the hype surrounding Hadoop as the linchpin of any big data strategy, it can still be very difficult to get started with the technology. Setting up, deploying and managing a cluster of Hadoop servers is one part of the problem, and the other is just knowing how and when to run MapReduce jobs. The situation becomes even trickier for companies already operating a Teradata system that want to integrate it with Hadoop so that the former can analyze data stored in the latter, as the two technologies were not designed with each other in mind."
any companies, such as eBay (e ebay), already operate joint Teradata-Hadoop environments. Teradata Labs President Scott Gnau has acknowledged to me that Hadoop is here to stay, so Teradata has to figure out a way, not just to play nice with Hadoop, but to embrace it. "
basically what i gather from that is this is the crap that they use to make up the algorithm they use for the search.
so what the heck? they are using 2 different things that arent meant to be used together?
for the selles affected i believe its time to make other plans if you havent already.

Oh...also if you see a low number in the tweet box at the top, don't tweet there. You need to back out of this post by hitting the technical issues link and then click back on this post. Another of Ebays GLITCHES. If you tweet to the low number tweet it gets lost...LOST?? Not sure if it is a glitch or done on purpose. So tweet it all out to every news agency, stock market, BBB, Lawyers office you can think of!!!
