That would be between you and whoever is hosting your website.

The hosting company knows nothing about this. This is something that ebay is doing.

ebay wouldn't have access to your website without yours ---or whomever controls access to it--- permission. You've enabled it somehow, somewhere along the way you signed up for something and allowed it. Change your password, delete the carp that's been put there, and be more careful about releasing authorization information to your website.

Just DEW it!

eBay can't break into your web page unless you've enabled it.

If you have links to your Ebay listings, the rest may just come along with it.

julieadc, do you by any chance mean your "my eBay" page?

Like the others have stated, eBay can't put code on your pages
without your permission.

Carl

Re: unauthorized advertising on my website

My company website is showing eBay advertising on it. I book musicians for weddings. I don't sell anything on eBay. There is text on my website that says "rock band" and that text is now highlighted. When you mouse over this text in the paragraph, it brings up a pop up to sell a product called "Rock Band" that is available for sale on eBay. My business doesn't sell products on eBay, it sells rock bands for parties. This advertising that eBay is doing is through a browser add-on called browser highlighter. I have not authorized anyone to advertise on my website. It would detract from the business I run and I want it gone.

Anyone from eBay corporate out there who can weigh in on this? How do I get your advertising off of my website?

OK - this has nothing to do directly with eBay, Browser Highlighter
is an app you are electing to run on your website. Go to your
website control panel and turn this app OFF. It will stop
underlining/highlighting keywords that point to popups.

Never mind about that last reply - I was testing out new drugs. I meant to
say the BROWSER app that is doing this, not the WEBSITE app:

OK - this has nothing to do directly with eBay, Browser Highlighter
is an extension you are electing to run on your browser. Go to your
browser Tools -> Options or Tools -> Add-Ons and turn this extension
OFF (or disable). It will stop underlining/highlighting keywords.

You can also uninstall the extension.

Carl, Sorry that you don't understand the issue. This browser plugin called browser highlighter is made by eBay and is allowing eBay to advertise on my website without my permission. I know how to turn it off in my browser but I don't have a way to turn it off in every person's browser who is visiting my website. I am trying to remove eBay's advertising from my website. I have done nothing to allow eBay to advertise on my website. They do not have my permission to do advertise on my website. This would be like someone taping their own ads on top of ads in the newspaper then delivering those papers to the customer. Yes, the customer could remove the tape and throw away the ad or they may not. In the meantime, that persobn's ads are covering up the legitimate, paid newspaper ad. You can bet that the newspaper company would put a stop to it. That's all I ask is that eBay tell me how to stop their unauthorized ads on my website.

Thanks, you have helped me to understand your particular take on
this issue much better. If I now understand the situation correctly,
you are not going to be able to do anything from a technical aspect
to stop a client's browser program from processing your website
text through that client's browser and extensions, and getting eBay
advertisement.

Legally, I cannot offer you advice. I have my own personal
opinion that eBay legal looked at this angle and decided that as
long as the end user is free to install or not install this browser
extension, there's nothing you can do to stop it. That's because the
advertising is taking place on the client's computer and not on your
website. That's technically correct, and semantically of no solace to you.

Thanks for clarifying the situation. Why on earth would someone
want this on their browser though? Gluttons for eBay
punishment I guess.

Cheers,

Carl

Well, my website is actually copyrighted and the eBay ads are actually changing the way the my site looks. The yellow underline on my copyrighted text as a result of this plug in means that they are high jacking my intellectual property. They are using my website to deliver their content without my permission.

I have notified a couple of the large news websites that their websites are subject to eBay's unauthorized banner ads. Also, have the FCC investigating. This should resolve quickly now.

If I use various releases of Internet Explorer to view your website, I
can guarantee you that alone will change the way your website
looks, to ME. That doesn't mean Microsoft is hijacking anything.

I use a browser add-on to block certain advertising. That is perfectly
legal even though it alters the appearance (thankfully!) of those web
pages.

I sympathize 100% with you, and I hope you realize that the vast
majority of people do not use a browser add-on that brings them
MORE eBay advertising.

However, I think you've exhausted your options for this issue.
