Maximum Wattage for a lightbulb

Unless listed on the lamp, is there a wattage limit for a light bulb that we need to observe, to put a light bulb into a lamp?

I wanted to stick a 150 watt lightbulb into one of our light fixtures, but am told we are limited to how much wattage we can stick in the lights.

The fixture is in a house, built in the 1970s. (Don't know if that would make any difference).

Usually 60 watt incandescent bulbs. Anything higher can generate too much heat and explode the fixture.

yes it goes BOOOOOM and wreaks havoc with alot of stuff :)
