Delta, I know you're pressed for time, but can't the outside stuff wait a few days until it cools off? And pleeeeeease take water outside with you. You'll end up dehydrated and sick. Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy.

I just tried to post on the UID thread and got this message:
Error You don't have permission to post in this forum.
I wonder why... especially since I can post here.
Oh, and others are able to post on that thread.
I watched a really cool movie last night until 01:30. It was called U571.
It was about an American submarine crew that was forced to run a crippled German submarine after they seized it and their submarine was destroyed by the submarine that came to assist the German one!
Realy cool.
It featured Jon Bon Jovi and that guy from the TV show Medium.

Bruce came back to SC a little while back, 3 months maybe, and asked if there was any point in him coming back here to sell and the answer was a resounding NO! Bruce was also in the Gulag when the Troll got us torched!
rrrrobins asked about the Noise shirts, I found the pic!

Tonneee, I'll give you $50 plus shipping for the G train!
What eBay has said was best for them ain't necessarily so. Their value to the share holders has to be in share price, since they do not pay a dividend. Take a look at their charts over time. Unless you were prescient enough to buy when they went down to 13 or so and everyone here said they were going to implode, you most likely have not made money on their stock. Then look at Amazon stock...
And if one more person tells me how much money Mark Zuckerberg lost on the Facebook IPO, I am going to SCREAM! He has teens of billions of dollars that he did not have the week before. I don't care if it's worth 5 billion less than the first day, he MADE billions and billions (you know the accent) of dollars. The only people who lost money are the ones who actually sold it for less than they paid for it. Sheesh.
Off to mix cement, and add that to my life skills! Is the morale improving around here yet?

I am doing little things, light work such as putting my clothes away in all that newly found cabinet space! I am also finding places to put things that have not been put away for years!
I don't need no stinkin' water! If I get sick from dehydration then I will just come here and cry about it!
OK... truth now, I know my limits and have been very careful to work within them. I work for about an hour and then come in and drink, smoke and sit in the basement which is the coolest place in the house. It is about 74 degrees in there!

Delta, I'll have to mention that movie to mom. She adores Bon Jovi. When "Livin' on a Prayer" came out, my brother and I were both incredibly tired of the video. But every time it came on, we had to watch it, so mom could drool.
That reminds me: I had wanted to see that movie "The Raven", and I completely forgot about it til just now. I'll have to wait til Netflix has it, I suppose. Can't imagine it's still in any theater around here. Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy.

Isn't G scale in the world of model railroading considered Garden Scale?
It is like two scales up from H-O?
Burnsie, are you planning a garden railroad?
I love model railroads. I have a bunch of H-O stuff in storage including a couple of German trains and several stations. I even have an East German passenger commuter engine and cars.
Oh, and Burnsie, I really like how you can stand out whenever you wear a T-shirt! Truth be known, I think you have a very nice figure!

Hi M N !

Awww, that is so sweet TempestGrace . Greetings back at ya Chicque. Sorry to see you are yourself absent today. And hello to everyone else on PLU, as well.
I've been quiet, in "lurking mode, largely because I have a crippled laptop. And formatting my replies, is an ordeal. Seems I have gotten entirely too much use of my left mouse button, on my touch pad. I already had it repaired once, and now it is failing again. So, I made a purchase of an external USB mouse, and I will have to await arrival, and installation, before I'm back up to "clickety, click, click" speed again.
That will be an interim fix, as I come to a decision on whether or not to replace my computer. I really don't "want" to, as it is a PITA, to load all your programs again. And I already once, went through what Rrrrrobins went through, discovering how much of your software has become obsolete.
None of my graphics programs, I had running on my XP Desktop were transferable to the Vista Operating System. I can only hope my newer programs will transfer over to Windows 7, without too much headache, as I cannot ignore the wear and tear evident on this machine.
I have been browsing around, when out and about, at Office Max, and Sam's Club, and now I'm doing the dance around...Reburb or Not? I would welcome input, on this question. I had a bad experience with a "lemon" I purchased through Egghead some years ago, which made me wary of "too good to be true" deals. And even when I bought this system brand new, the first unit I received had "bios" issues, and I had to return it to the store for a replacement.
I've looked at some models at TigerDirect, and Overstock.com. (Cuz I get cash rebates through BigCrumbs through those retailers.) And have another auction on my watch list, to see what price it escalates to. Has anyone here ever purchased an Acer, or IBM Lenovo? Was also looking at Toshiba Satellite models. If so, were you happy with your purchase? All of my computers have been either HP or Compaq models. I'm familiar with them, but perhaps I am missing out, on something even better?
And TempestGrace...you won't ever be sorry, if you get modern, and get a bonafide DVD player. I cannot say enough good things about the Netflix service. You may even be able to play them, on your existing DVR? Perhaps you need to get your manual out?
And to everyone else... I thinking about you, even if my commentary, isn't what it usually is.
Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. ~ Harold Whitman

These days you can get a cheap DVD player at Walmart for something like $25.00.
Back in 1998 the first Panasonic portable DVD players came out in the Base Exchange. My Father-In-Law bought us one for Christmas just before we left Germany. Cost... $600.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were able to barely squeek out two movies on the flight to the US. I bought a splitter so that we could each have headphones.
Now you can get a portable with a screen twice the size of mine for $40.00!

Wonderful!
Another Glitch!
Ebay won't let me list with out checking that I take PayPal.
This afternoon I listed an item in a category I don't usually sell in: Postcards.
Ebay wouldn't let the listing go through without PayPal. I though maybe it was some new rule for that category. So I listed it with PayPal, and then went back and revised and took PayPal out. That went through fine. And my buyer bought the item.
Now I'm trying to list more items in my normal category, and once again eBay won't let me send the listing through without PayPal.
What a PITA, to have to revise every listing!

rrrrrrobin, I thought you had to say you took Paypal. I learn something new every day on here.
We were just outside with one of Buddy's friends for about 1/2 hour. Yikes, that heat gets to a person.
I rarely buy electronic stuff when it's new. I try to wait a couple years, when the price goes down. When the Playstation2 came out, my then boyfriend insisted on getting it. I think he paid like $500. I waited a few years, then bought one for my son. I paid $200. I'm trying to get hubby to do that with Xbox games, but all his friends get them new. I pointed out he's not 12 anyore, and he can live with not having a $60 game. Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy.

G is indeed Garden scale, Grand scale! I have a friend with a garden railroad!!! I have the next size smaller, the one with the 3" wide track, that belonged to my uncles, IIRC. I also have a regular HO and once bought DH a tiny Z scale which is gathering dust
Cement is poured. I can't believe how little water you put in it!

Hi Moon –
My nephew is a computer geek, working at a large computer company in R&D as a troubleshooter. I think he likes HP, but I can get his input when you narrow down your choices. I also know that on many machines, you can have them change your o/s to Windows XP instead of what is currently on the machine you buy (he’s done that for me already because of my software).
Delta -
I sold my dad’s old large American Flyer train set (from the late ‘20s) a few years ago. As it turned out, the one sign on the old tin building (which said ‘Edison Station’ instead of “Power Station) was worth $875.00 because of its scarcity. That sign was worth more than the rest of the set combined

Yah, eBay doesn't publicize very much, but there are alternative payment methods that are allowed.
In my case, I have a merchant account for my brick&mortar store, as well as for trade shows and mail-order/phone-in sales. It is possible to integrate that with eBay check-out, and not offer PayPal.
Since I already pay a standard monthly fee for the merchant account, using PayPal would mean I'd be paying double fees each month.
I still take PayPal if someone asks for it, but usually they just pay with credit card without any complaints ... even my foreign customers.

Fry's has had some nicely featured lappies for less than $300 the past few weeks. They even have the 14" screen I wanted, but DD#2 gave me back the HP lappie she made me buy her for college and it still works so I am stuck with it. Is the morale improving around here yet?

I have not tried it myself but all the reviews I have read mention that Windows 7 is a far cry better and more stable than that PS Vista!
I still use XP myslelf but I think that this is the last year Microsoft intends to support it with updates and such.

I remember when indows first came out and we shifted from DOS.
I have used every publicly available version of windows since the beginning except for 7.
I useVista for only a couple of months when I converted back to XP.
The earlieset versions were useful but still just DOS overlays. When 3.0 came out it was great because of multitasking. Win 95 was pretty good. Win 98 was a bit unstable Win XP has been the most stable. Vista was a disaster.
Maybe one day soon I will get a chance to try out 7.

I went from DOS to W2000 to VISTA. Never used XP or 98. I'll probably end up skipping Win7 and go to 8, lol! I've never had a bit of trouble with VISTA. My system has some odd directory locations that appear to be from having VISTA overlaid on top of an original XP machine. I was able to get drivers for my scanner and my printer, and if anything, they all worked better than the old drivers. The scanner has a whole new suite of tools!
