Come in! I have an idea! Not sure whether it will help!

Nov 6, 2009 12:01 PM
:-p

In case of buyers claim they received an empty box, a stone, etc.

If I make a video record when I ship the items,

record the whole process, packing, labeling, and record the ID of the USPS shipper (who help me to ship)...

(I sell laptop)

But I wonder if the USPS shipper is willing to cooperate with me?

Any one tried this before??

you could have added this to your original thread....

I have never heard of anyone using video as evidence, and I can't imagine your shipper wanting one of their employees to stand as witness.

...and you're going to do... what? ....with that video evidence of your packing?

I've heard some other folks in the past claim that they actually did this, but exactly what they planned to do with their video was unclear. You can't go uploading it or mailing it to PayPal as a defense of either an Item Not Received or a Significantly Not As Described dispute. No one at PayPal is going to receive it or view it.

It's not that you can't film yourself packing boxes if you like; it's that you won't have any channel open to you for using that proof in any dispute that might arise later.

You're welcome to contact your P.O., but I'm 99.9% certain you would be told to stop recording immediately.

From what I can remember, Postal employees are not permitted to act as a "witness" to the contents you are shipping. That's not their job and there's certainly no benefit to the Post Office.

Even IF Paypal would look at it, it's still not "proof".

You could simply have the postal clerk hand you back the package after you're done filming, and switch it with another package to that buyer.

Or recall the package and send another. etc

Why don't you give us a little better description of what it is you're intending to do? For example, your wording seemed to suggest that you might be dropshipping, or otherwise gearing up to try something more than just unloading your own older laptop 'cause you bought yourself a new one. If you could give us some more specifics on what you have in mind, we can make some more detailed suggestions.

UPS store will package an item for you. So will Office Depot which I use to ship my UPS items. UPS requires you to disclose what's in the package. I don't know how this will help you. I'm sure they won't remember what they packed, and I'm not sure that they will remember that it was them who entered the description of the item they packed.

Good luck, I doubt that PayPal means a video for "online viewable" evidence of shipping. You can summit a jpg as evidence in a PayPal dispute. From my experience they either don't look, or don't believe what they're seeing.

PP requires on-line viewable proof of delivery, not shipping. They don't care what's in the box, if anything.

comfy

Your correct, however OPs concern is in what he shipped. That would be referred to as a Significantly Not As Described, and what is in the box is very important. Revise my post to "online viewable" evidence of Delivery.

It still isn't going to be proof of delivery to PayPal. And I doubt that they will click on a link to a video to prove what's in the box.

Waste of time.

Filming can be manipulated to fit the person doing the filming`s personal agenda.

Why are you anticipating this kind of problems?:O

Your idea is not a bad one, apple-insider. Others have suggested it before. If PayPal would accept the video during the dispute process or on appeal it would certainly help your case.

The problem is that shipping companies have no interest in becoming that deeply involved in your business transaction. If a transaction turned into a criminal case, they could even be called upon to testify. There's nothing in it for them.

A company may incidentally 'witness' what you're shipping, but that's another matter.
