If you received an email, asking for your social security number, credit card, password, or asking you do update any information what so ever. It is not real. Its a scam. I repeat it is a scam. Though Uncle eBay tries to post warnings I will re-state it. Uncle eBay will never ask for such information in an email.****

These emails may come in the disguise as a request to update your information, or a threat that if you do not update your info, you will be suspended. They may also tell you by updating your info, you will win a prize. ALL SCAMS!!. If you click in links in those emails, you can unleash a virus, or a trojan horse that can gain access to all your account info.

******Neither eBay or Pay Pal, ask for personal information in an email.******

I just got one of those emails tonite and was hoping someone posted info on it to warn others. I was gonna do the same. Ebay is a great place to buy and sell and respect all of its members (buyers and sellers). I fowarded a copy to the trust and safety and got an immediate reply. Wished i would have checked here first. But didnt know bout it till now. =) Thanks again though for giving all a "heads up".

I'm glad I scrolled down and saw this post, as I would have started and new one and sounded like a raving idiot. I just got one of these emails and was furious at ebay...didn't know it was a scam. Mine came from Safe Harbor Subject: NOTICE eBay Registration Requested - Misrepresentation of Identity
and contents...and below it a form requesting ALL personal information including credit card update.

Dear Sir,

We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't resolve your problems. To resolve this problems please click here and login into your account in order to resolve your the problems. If your problems could not be resolved your account will be suspended for a period of 3-4 days, after that it will be again operational.

Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.

Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your
agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to ebay.

This is a very important issue. We have to keep other users informed about this. As I said an informed eBayer, is a safe eBayer.

I just want to add, Uncle eBay certainly does not need anymore bad press. I honestly think it hurts the sellers. It detracts bidders, who may think ebay is a bad place, when if you know the ins and outs its a great place to buy and sell. Maybe if we all work together and keep others informed, we can reduce the bad press.

I know, a dream. But to me its worth a try.
