Anyone else spotting the Apple iPod Nano 4GB hijacks?
There have been about a hundred different accounts offering these for between $60 and $100 BIN today. I've confirmed with an LH rep that they are all hijacks, and have given all the IDs I could spot to T&S.
Work out your own search for them - no email addresses or anything, just these huge lists of iPods for sale at impossibly low prices. Lots have gone, but more keep appearing, and it's late here in Aus, so anyone else is welcome to them

cometqrs, thanks for the kudos. I can barely keep up with beware-of-fraud and all the other participants on the German thread today. They are finding and reporting hacked accounts at a rapid pace today. It would be nice if eBay would keep up. Thus far (in 3 hours), I have added 60 new email addresses of these thieves, which is out of the ordinary. I can't even guess at how many I have missed because eBay has secured some of the accounts.
Right now I am just following beware-of-fraud's footsteps to add email addresses to the blog. Without the efforts of beware-of-fraud and the participants on the German thread, I would be miles behind today.
If eBay management had a conscience, they would be mortified. I thought it was bad yesterday, but it is much worse today. Rob Chesnut needs to find himself either a conscience or a cave to hide in in Afghanistan because if he answers any questions at the next Town Hall meeting, he is going to be lying about eBay's proactiveness towards fraud, and the eBay community is going to know about it as the information provided will be well-publicized afterwards.

The real answers are...
#1 For them to significantly verify all users and actually hold them accountable for their actions not just the for fees they pay. Never going to happen because they love their profits no matter where they come from.
#2 To significantly educate new users on how to maintain control over their own accounts. Also, never going to happen because it would require admission as to the true amount of the fraud that is present here rather than their continued stating that the site is completely safe.
They claim "feedback will keep you safe" and then immediately go on to allow it to be compromised by .01 BIN auctions that have no other legitimacy than to create false feedback profiles for scammers and allow poorly performing powersellers bury their bad behavior and maintain their status and for what? 30 something cent listing fees?
Today was a busy day.... for scammers
So was yesterday and so will it be tomorrow as well......

Thank goodness eBay does allow the posting of email addresses in the listings. It's one of the top red flags that the account might be hijacked and the listing might be a scam. If there isn't an overlay in the listing and if the email address isn't part of a jpeg, at least we can post the email addresses elsewhere so they can be searched for, track them on eBay and see/report the accounts affected by them.
Until eBay implements fail-safe fraud protection methods, I support email addresses in listings. Legitimate sellers are foolish for posting their email addresses because they are subject to all types of problems, but that's their problem.

Sure they can. The scammers will just change their tactic, such as changing the registered email address in the hijacked accounts and using more overlays.
I doubt if we are catching any of the more skilled ATO scammers - except by accident. But even the unskilled make a lot of money off willing victims.

allsorts, there are plenty of hijackers that do not post email addresses. They turn the email forwarding function off in My eBay Preferences and accept ASQs. If eBay would force every member to accept a duplicate copy of all ASQs to a registered email address, as it would alert the real member, then I might support your idea.
If a member does not know that his Preferences have been changed, he very likely might not know that his account was hijacked.
Also, just because eBay might be able to disable the "@" sign in listings, would not prevent people from typing the email address with the word "at" in it. I see plenty of listings like that, from hijackers and legitimate sellers.
Bottomline, eBay is doing nothing to curtail fraud and until forced to by some legal authority, it will continue to do nothing.

allsorts0_2:” I still say ban the email, without the email addresses people cannot contact these scammers” Oh I definitely agree with banning email addresses in listings. And actually I don’t see any reason why buyers and sellers need each others personal email address because there is other contact information between transaction partners if something goes wrong.
For me eBay’s message system is sufficient enough to contact a member. And with all the hijacked accounts, in my opinion there can be hijackers hiding out in sellers’ accounts without them knowing it just to harvest email addresses. And that is why I think some members receive phishing emails with their full name on it.
billslongbows: “The scammers will just change their tactic” I actually noticed some changes from some of the scammers, and if the report doesn’t get handled by a knowledgeable Rep it can be a bit scary.

#112 - Great.
So - what's the T&S board for? Discussing excessive postage?
Seriously, this is just ridiculous. We need to be able to share knowledge. You can't do that by talking in vague terms.
There is still no visible consistent reaction from eBay to the sudden influx of impossibly cheap iPods on hijacked accounts. Individual IDs go down, plus occasional small sets. The rest remain visible for hours, with BIN and immediate PayPal payment possible. Literally hundreds have been "sold", for thousands of dollars, over the last 36-48 hours.
I've reported and reported and reported. OK with the slapper? But I'm getting tired. I'd like others to be able to do it too. They need to know what to look for.
What should I say? "Watch out, there are scammers on eBay!" Or is that too specific?
That really ought to help. ![]:)](http://b.us-forums.lvwd.net/images/emoticons/devil.gif)

Apparently eBay doesn't want knowledge to be shared, they want it be surpressed. Can't have the unwashed masses finding out that aud-fray may exceed the improbably tiny percentage eBay claims it to be. Never an additional charge for bad advice. At eBay, we're not happy until you're not happy!!!!

eBay wants its members (specifically those that participate frequently on this Board) to adopt eBay's form of Scientology.
Basically, it boils down to that if eBay isn't bothered by "it", you shouldn't be either. Unfortunately, many go against the fray and are outraged, and for that they are censored and reprimanded.
It's too bad that eBay wants to hide the dirty secrets because people get hurt when there isn't transparency.

I hate PDF. Screen readers don't work with it and the Adobe additions for the blind aren't worth $**t! In light of the rules, why not look for an off site board where things can be posted more openly. One could set it up so that only the 'in crowd' could see the postings which would allow even more openness. T&S board members from around the world could be invited to join so a united effort might be mounted and coordinated. I'd leave the boards with strong enforcement of terms restricting free speech to be used only for posting of statistical information and so others could know that an off site discussion area exists for invited participants. Such a board might even allow such major transgressions as posting in all caps. Check out your trading partner and that escrow site!

I can tell you from experience that search strings are taboo. It's obvious that eBay doesn't want fraud discussed on the Trust & Safety Board or ANY eBay discussion board for that matter. Perhaps the term "DISCUSSION BOARDS" is a misnomer?
