Seller Falsly Claiming Powerseller Status

Nov 6, 2009 1:49 AM
Came across a listing just now where the seller is claiming powerseller status, but they aren't. I'm trying to report the listing / seller, but can't seem to find the violation page to report it. Searching help, hasn't! :)

Can someone help me out here?

p.s. It's kinda cute and funny, too, as they are trying to explain away their negs and neuts as an ebay "learning curve", and to please ignore the negs! :) China seller. I'd post the exact wording they are using, but that's probably against posting regs...

Actually, they currently have 270 listings, apparently all with this same wording. Didn't I see somewhere that wrongly claiming powerseller status was against policy?

>>>>the seller is claiming powerseller status.>>>>>

The power seller LOGO ICON is no longer visible to buyers as of this past October.

Just says top Rated - Seller.

So he may be telling the truth.

And being in China does not mean he is not a top rated seller.

Explaining away his negs? Well that`s tacky .... and most buyers will hit the back button. ....... Hopefully anyhow.

I think that eBay was worried about Top Power Rated Seller confusion.

This seller is NOT TRS.

And being in China does not mean he is not a top rated seller.

I never said it did. Why are you being so argumentative and defensive? All I was doing was asking for help finding the link to report what I (still) believe is against policy!

So now, if the seller is not TRS, there's no visual identification of PowerSeller Status?

Correct.
All Top-Rated Sellers are PowerSellers.
Not all PowerSellers are Top-Rated Sellers.

Whoop, thanks for you help. I understand TRS has additional requirements over PS, what I'm asking is if a seller is not a TRS but is a PS, there's no longer any icon designating the status? i.e. if someone claims PS in description, there's NO way to know if they are lying if they aren't a TRS? On item page, feedback page, or ME page?

As vintage_buyer7 indicated there is no more PowerSeller icon.

...there's NO way to know if they are lying if they aren't a TRS?

If their FB, DSRs and sales volume are at or near the requirements they are probaby telling the truth.

If I was listing on this account and made that claim, you would know it wasn't true...

I don't understand what the big deal is. PowerSeller never meant anything regarding reliability or trustworthiness anyways. All it ever meant was that they sold "X" amount in "X" months. It never reflected buyer satisfaction since most buyers they scammed were too intimidated to leave FB. Even after the FB changes, PSers were still known to threaten buyers with other forms of retaliation if they left Negs.

I always saw the PS logo as somewhat of a joke and a sign of who to avoid buying from.

Then of course there was the whole 'Power Seller of the Month' fiasco where two or three PSers selected for the award were found to be doing things illegal.

A lot of PSers on the boards here deliberately hid the logo since they knew it was looked down upon by so many. Some said their sales actually went up when they turned the logo off.

As vintage_buyer7 indicated there is no more PowerSeller icon.

Um... On my own feedback page (i.e. When I view my own feedback page while logged in to this account), I can see both the PowerSeller and Top Rated Seller logos sitting side by side. However, if I view the same page while logged in to my buying account instead, only the Top Rated Seller logo is visible.

I know of one other place where the Power Seller logo appears visible to anyone: the Saved Sellers page. If you add me to your Saved Sellers listing, I believe you should then see the Power Seller logo next to my ID. I have a_c_green listed as a Saved Seller on my buying account, and I just verified in my buying account a couple of minutes ago that the Power Seller logo still appears there.

*gack*

I'm sorry; brain fart. It's not my feedback page that has them like that; it's the My eBay page.

My comments on the logo remaining visible on the Saved Sellers page still stand.

You are quite right. You can simply add them to your saved seller list to 'verify' if they are a PowerSeller or not.
That didn't occur to me and I have PS saved in my list (doh).

Worked like a charm! Thanks AC! And in the interest of fairness, this seller is indeed a PS - although just barely it appears - 4.6 on shipping DSR and 98.7% feedback.

Also, just to clarify, didn't I see it somewhere that claiming PS status or using the PS logo when you aren't is actually against policy? I couldn't find anything in help, but I swear I saw it somewhere, sometime! Maybe it's moot now with TRS?
