Please help identify this pin / pendant
May 1, 2012 09:08 PM

I am trying to identify this pendant / pin. It has four claws and is made of what I believe is a low grade of gold, like 9 carat or else it's copper which I doubt.

Thing is, I have helped many on eBay when asked, but I asked three sellers today who sell similar pieces and got the brush off.

I believe this piece to be vintage, but don't know the age. I know these are cat claws of some type, but I know they are not bobcat or mountain lion. I have seen similar pieces sell on eBay, usually a single claw, but descriptions are all over the board. Some say african lion, some say tiger etc.

The piece measures 2 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide. Each claw measures approximately 1 1/16 inches long.

The piece can be worn aa a pendant or a pin.

Any help would be greatly appreciated please. Thank you.

I do not know much about jewelry but, definitely old.  I would check for the gold content.

If it were mine I would, say things like antique,  large claw, gold, pin, brooch, necklace.

If you check the gold content I woud mention that in the title.  I have so several things with claws and teeth and done well.

Hi!  These look like they might be bear claws.  Southwestern native american jewelry uses them, but this does not look like that style.  It looks nicely made and I also think it is probably older.  The clasp may be able to better approximate the age, but it's hard to see in the photo.  Very interesting piece!

Greetings:  What an interesting piece.  It reminds me of the symbol of the Isle of Man, only that symbol has three legs.  The Isle of Man is where the Manx cat originated.  Cheers.
