Buyers remorse
Jun 25, 2012 08:00 PM

Sold vintage Singer sewing machine Model 15-91. Buyer contacted me saying it was slow. I spent half hour on the phone with him trouble shooting. He at first said the motor was shot. Now he agrees the motor works fine. Everything works fine on the machine other than he says it goes real slow. During our phone conversation he tells me he found another Singer 15-91 with cabinet in great shape 10 miles from him and he purchased it for $49. He wanted to know if I wanted him to return my machine so I could find out what might be wrong with it. My answer is no for a couple reasons. I'm sure he now does not need 2 of the same type machine and paid $198 for mine and thinks I will take mine back not that he has found another for only $49 with a cabinet. I know these machines inside and out and with my troubleshooting there is nothing wrong with the machine. It takes me about an hour plus $15 additional packing materials to ready one of these machines for shipment to see that it is not damages in any way when it arrives. He has already given me a positive feedback but now I see what is happening with buyers remorse. What would you other ebayer do? ps: I will never sell vintage machines with 14 day no questions asked money back refund. That would really be stupid. This is a good example of how people will take advantage of that rule.

Seems to me you've already made up your mind what to do.  Don't allow a return, and don't refund.  He bought it, he lives with it.

This is a real tough one. If I had this situation I would take back the machine due to the 14 day money back policy. Re-list it a bit cheaper and explain that the sale is AS IS and Final no returns. Check out the machine to see how it runs. If it is a bit slow, say so in your listing.Tat way you avoid any negative feedback. And why are there lines under my words? haha. Anyway, I hope this was of help to you.

Problem being...paypal will freeze your account regardless of your saying AS IS and NO RETURNS. With there "buyer protection". The buyer can say whatever he wishes and you, the seller have no ability to reason with them. In this case ebay said they found in favor of the buyer even after the buyer lies in several emails they should have reviewed. Ebay tells me that a final decision will not be made until I receive the machine back, however my Paypal account is frozen for the total amount. Ebay does not back the seller in any way. I've been on ebay for 7 years and it means nothing to them. They want the buyer to "feel good about ebay" and really don't give a damn about the seller working hard to provide product so ebay has something to offer for sale. They have forgotten how pays them every month. It sure isn't the buyer. The machine has not arrived back yet, but I double box each machine and spend over 1 1/2 hours to pack. In his latest email he said he put it in one box and took it to the ups store. Can't wait to see the damages when it arrives. People really do not understand the vintage items are not new in the box and he had no idea how to work a 1949 Singer Sewing Machine. No push buttons computer operated machine.

Sounds good, but you saying NO RETURNS AND AS IS will not cut it with ebay today. They seem to think we are WalMart or Target. But thanks for your info

Better idea than mine.  You buy an old machine. Its a bit slow so fix it. What's wrong with these people? The guy wanted a freebee thats what that was all about and it sucks for us! mThe sellers. We pay to list every month yet ebay wont help us at all. It's time for a change. Do you hear us ebay?

How much is my machine worth? When I plug it up the light comes on and the motor makes a smooth humming noise. Is it worth repairing? The wires need to be replaced for sure.
