Fur Coat - Beautiful Fur Coat Needs IDing - Type of Fur??

I have a fur jacket that i am trying determine which type of fur it is made of. It has a detailed silk lining with initials embroided along with floral patterns. The fur itself is soft & thick, it's not unlike mink, but I would question if it may be fox or something else too. The undercoat is very soft. The full photo album including close-ups can be viewed here - http://photobucket.com/furcoat1

Any help is appreciated - the link above that goes to the photo album may help as it would only let me post two images here. It has pictures of the lining and more close-ups.

I think you'll find that's mink.  The density, the gloss, the uniformity of color, and the length of the guard hairs are what tell you.

Fox is plusher, with far longer guard hairs (usually 1.5" - 2" long), and typically the undercoat is a lighter color than the guard hairs (unless dyed). I do not think that is a typical color for fox, but it would have been a very desirable color for a natural mink coat, especially before the vast proliferation of color mutations became widely bred.

The lining is typical of a fur coat. The embroidered initials in the coat are also typical of the age (I'm going to estimate 1940s from the cut).

Wow, that'll be great if it is mink! Should I re-post this in the suggested category? I'm not comfortable doing anything with it until I'm sure what it is. Thanks for the great info!

Yes, go ahead and post over at the CS&A board. Friendly people. They know furs, too. :)

Mink. From the late 60s into the early 70s based on the collar, double breasted style, and length.
