Hello all toy collectors and vintage item conesuers!!

I have come across a brand new-never used-still in it's original box set of "Venture Lawn Darts Game-for adults"--with the point tips; which from my understanding are, illegal. It was given to me by my great aunt who is in her 80's (out of respect to an older woman I won't reveal her specific age). I am curious if there is anyone out there who may be able to shed some light on how to go about finding it's current worth?

Thank you kindly!!

Alisha

I do have a photo available; however, I am posting this is iPhone, and I am unable to attach te photo--or I haven't quite been able to figure it out :)

I doubt that they are illegal.  They are probably no just longer sold that way for liability reasons and I believe they came up with an alternate design that was safer.

Metal tipped lawn darts have been banned since 1988 and the product was recalled for safety reasons.  Because eBay doesn't allow listings for recalled items,  yours will probably be yanked before the listing even gets cold.  The second link is eBay's position on recalled items.

It is neither illegal to own or use pointed lawn darts. It it however illegal to sell them. That's the law.

Bummer that they can't be sold here - they were fun to play and I wouldn't mind having a set ( there aren't any kids living in my home these days). But, I am old enough to remember when and why they were banned.  Something about a lawn dart puncturing a boy's skull, to name one of the many serious and/or fatal injuries that occured.

I saw a new set in the original box with the JCPenny price tag of $3.99 still on them for $1 at a yardsale Saturday

Yes, it's true that lawn darts are dangerous, and (I think) four people died as a result of injuries from lawn darts during the 80s.

However to put it in proportion, many activities are more dangerous than lawn darts (and some far more), yet are not banned.  Trampolines killed 11 people during the 90s and there are far fewer trampoline users than there were lawn dart users.  Trampolines are not banned.

Skate board accidents kill about 4 people each year - yet they aren't banned.

Cheerleading has killed and seriously injured more people than jarts, yet it isn't banned.

Wading pools have killed hundreds of small children.  Banned? - No.

Lawn jarts should never have been marketed with anything but an adult audience.  Yes - they're dangerous, but lots of things are far more dangerous - yet are not banned.

skipper-john: you make some valid points. Personally, I liked lawn darts and as a responsible adult, I never used them when kids were running around.  And I can attest to the dangers of skateboarding.  I can't count the number of times I took my two sons to the doctor/ER for boarding accidents.
