A Quick Start to Using Blackthorne Pro - Jan 24

Jan 24, 2007 12:59 PM

Welcome to this workshop, A Quick Start to Using
Blackthorne Pro
. I've been using Blackthorne Pro and training
others in its use for over 1 1/2 years. Much info will be presented during
this workshop - please ask questions if you need any of these points clarified.
This workshop shows screenshots and includes details for the 3.1.x
versions of Blackthorne, not the 3.0 versions, so if you're still using
one of the 3.0.x versions, be aware some of this info will only be pertinent
when you use a more recent version of Blackthorne Pro (henceforth, I'll
refer to BTPro). BTW - A 3.1.x general upgrade of BTPro is scheduled to
occur very soon.

I am often on one of the Blackthorne discussion boards with others who
will answer questions - if you do email me, I may answer or I may direct
you to one of the boards: the eBay
Blackthorne discussion board
or the Blackthorne
Developers' board
.

I have presented additional eBay workshops about Blackthorne Pro you
may find useful:

A Quick Start to Using Blackthorne Pro - Jan 24

Jan 24, 2007 1:00 PM

There are 6 main areas of BTPro - Items, Listings, Sales, Buyers, Suppliers
and Consignors. These relate to each other "deep": in the database.
"Items" contains all of your item records, whether they've been
listed on eBay or not. "Listings" includes records of all items
you have listed on eBay. "Sales" holds records of all items
you've listed on eBay and which have closed with a sale or no bids at
listing period end. "Buyers" includes all info you have about
your high bidders. "Suppliers" contains data you have entered
about your vendors. "Consignors" holds records you've created
about your consignment clients. (Of course, if you have not entered info
about your suppliers or consignors, there will be nothing in these areas.)

A Quick Start to Using Blackthorne Pro - Jan 24

Jan 24, 2007 1:01 PM

When you double-click the BTPro shortcut on your desktop to start BTPro
for the first time, you will be asked to enter your preferences in the
Setup Assistant for its many areas. In the first preference to which you
respond, you will be asked if you want to import your SAPro database,
if you have one. (It MUST be SAPro version 2.081 or later!) If so, check
that the field at the top shows the correct database (usually C:\Program
Files\ebay\Seller's Assistant\sapro.mdb.

The next window is Seller Accounts. Click New if your seller account
info is not showing and add correct info. If any seller accounts are showing,
you may want to check the info by clicking on the Edit button. Delete
any accounts you do not wish to have in BTPro. HOWEVER - if you delete
a profile before associating the records from that profile with another
profile via bulk edit, you will lose those records.

You will then have a wait of a few moments and the BTPro authorization
window will pop up. Enter your user ID & password, then click Sign
in Securely. Click the next page to agree, then click Close. Click Next>>
to get to the next preference window.

A Quick Start to Using Blackthorne Pro - Jan 24

Jan 24, 2007 1:08 PM

Please go thru each setting window and enter the appropriate information
if you know it at this time. All of these initial settings may be modified
later by going to the menu item near the top left of the BTPro window:
Tools>Options. Be sure to test your connection for the email account(s)
and picture host(s).

Let's figure now that you have all your settings and are ready to begin
listing an item. (I will not get into the more advanced features, consignments
or suppliers, in this workshop - we'll imagine you are listing items you
own.) I will walk you thru the creation of an Item Template, a new Item
record and a bit on running listings & post-sales info. I advise you
to return to this workshop later and use this as a guide to creating a
test auction before you do a real listing thru Blackthorne. If you start
an item at 1 to 99¢ and use no upgrades, your eBay listing fee will
be 20¢ - a low price for a useful practice. (Use the category Everything
Else>Test Auctions>General for this!)

ITEM TEMPLATE

An Item Template (IT) is a default record which is used to create item
records. It has many of the defaults already included so you don't have
to select or add common information over and over with each new record.
Some have only one IT, some have a few or several. There is no reason
I can think of to have more than a dozen or so ITs. Most of the successful
BTPro users I know have 3 or 4 ITs. I have one which is what I use for
more than half of my items, another I use for the items for my main consignment
client and a couple I use infrequently for special circumstances.

In the image above, select the Item Templates folder, click on the New
Item button & select Untitled. This creates a new IT record which
you will edit approximately like the following info.

A Quick Start to Using Blackthorne Pro - Jan 24

Jan 24, 2007 1:10 PM

I prefer to use the details section for entry in the vertical split screen
view, I have hidden some fields thru the setup and I've moved some field
groups to make it easiest for me, so my screen shots will show my setup.
You should be able to follow regardless of the differences in your own
window.

Name your IT, such as "My Usual IT". If you use part numbers
that have a basic starting format, you may enter that part. If you have
something to use in your usual description, you may enter that. If you
use a theme usually, select that. (A theme is one of eBay's Listing Designer
"frames" around your description.) If you have a commonly-used
Ad Template (more about ATs in a bit), select that.

If you have a frequently-used category, you may select that as part of
your IT. Ditto for your store categories, if applicable. If you always
use the same image for your gallery photo, select it from your hard drive
in the first picture field. Select your picture host.

A Quick Start to Using Blackthorne Pro - Jan 24

Jan 24, 2007 1:13 PM
Hello,
I sell many items that are similar but unique each week in size and especially photo. A major problem with SA was each week updating the photos and sizes of my items would botch my reposts from going quickly. Do you know if the photos remain unique between creating the listing, the running listing, and the ended or sold listings?
Thanks!
Susan

Susan...
Whatever photos you put in the listing will remain the same unless you edit/change something.

If you sell consigned items, enter the consignment info. If you buy from
suppliers, when the Consigned box is not checked, the Consignor Field
changes to Supplier and a field for your cost appears below that.

If you track inventory, check the Track Inventory for this item box and
enter the Total On Hand quantity. If you wish to note the storage location
of your item(s), note that.
