Good afternoon! Welcome to our eBay Marketplace Research workshop. Today JohnB and Lomax will be fielding your questions about how products are selling on eBay. We can tell you information such as the number of products sold, sell-through rates, trends, and pricing information. Hopefully this will provide some insight into the eBay Marketplace that is specific your business.

What should I ask?


When asking your questions, try to be as specific as possible about the product of interest.


For example, “How are wrist watches selling on eBay” is a very general question that will likely not return meaningful information. However, specifics questions, like the one below, will.


“I have an opportunity to buy two dozen men’s Fossil watches for $20 a piece. What kind of revenue can I expect selling them on eBay? Are they selling well? Should I stock them?”

Can you tell me about the sale of fine art black and white photographs, particularly landscape, cityscape, seascape, etc NOT portraits. Both Silver Gelatin photographic prints and giclee prints? Volumes, trends, prices?

I have found some very unique patented handbags & totes made out of vintage LPs. They are nothing like the ones I see currently for sale on eBay and elsewhere. I can get them for $35 for the small and $90 for the large totes. How would I guage the potential revenue selling them on eBay since they are different? What kind of revenue could I expect? How would I tell if these will sell well or better than what's out there now? And should I stock them?

Richard,

About 100 black and white photgraphs (non-portrait) sell per week on eBay with an average price of 16.

It looks like there is a huge supply consistently available in various eBay Stores - about 15,000, so there is signficant competition at the lower end.

Let me check the higher end items.

Also, I have access to medium and large abstract oil paintings done by a local artist. Again, what kind of revenue can I expect selling them on eBay? Do they sell well?

About 150 sold mostly in the range of 50 to 150 dollars over the last two weeks. With a few even higher end items in the $1500 price range.

pnworldwide,

In this case you will need to make an educated guess based on the most comparable items sold on eBay. the LP Record handbags that I found sell for approximately $15-20.

It looks like about 50 sell per week, with 2/3 selling in auctions. 1 out of every 3 listings sell.
