eBay Workshop: eBay Express – Get Ready! - March 17th

Good morning, West Coast! I have three questions:
1. Would a listing set up in auction format with a BIN option show up in eBay Express at all?
2. Will listings which offer other payment options (like money order/cashier's check) in addition to PayPal show up at all in eBay Express, or will eBay Express list ONLY those items requiring PayPal payments, with NO other payment options?
3. Will eBay Express include fixed price/BIN listings which include the Best Offer option?
Thank you in advance for your answers, and thank you for having this workshop! I hope there will be more of them as the time for launching nears!
And have a GREAT St. Patrick's Day! Hope you see lots of GREEN!

Re: Post #3
Hi knowhat,
Every item on eBay Express is covered by free buyer protection with the full amount of the purchase covered. Buyer protection on eBay Express is similar to the PayPal Buyer Protection offered on eBay.com, but expanded to cover the total amount of purchase on eBay Express.
Hope this helps.

What is eBay Express?
eBay Express is a new specialty site to attract new customers for your products.
We've found that many online shoppers today are looking to buy new, fixed price goods in a more typical e-commerce experience. We wanted to meet their needs without changing eBay.com or your selling experience.
To do so, we are building a new shopping experience for existing eBay listings. The key elements are:
•Get it new. New inventory is emphasized. Items in other condition are also in eBay Express, “one-click away”.
•Get it now. Everything on eBay is offered at fixed price. No bidding, no waiting.
•Fill a shopping cart. Pay for items from multiple eBay sellers in a single, secure payment using PayPal or credit card.
•Buy with confidence. Every transaction is fully covered by eBay Express Purchase Protection.
We think eBay Express will encourage more shopping among our existing buyers who may only buy on eBay for certain purposes or types of products. We also think it will attract new buyers to eBay.

What does eBay Express mean for sellers?
We designed participation in eBay Express to be easy for eBay sellers:
•Automatic additional exposure. Listings on eBay.com that meet the qualifying criteria (see below) will automatically appear on eBay Express – at no additional cost. The standard final value fee applies.
•Instant payments. Buyers are required to pay for the item at the same time as they buy it, greatly reducing UPIs.
•No changes to the selling experience. An eBay Express listing is just a redisplayed eBay.com listing, making it easy to sell on eBay Express. There is no need to list inventory twice or change how you process sales. The same eBay.com policies, feedback, and seller protection program apply on eBay Express. eBay Express listings and transactions are not marked differently from regular eBay.com listings and transactions in My eBay, sales reports, or site emails.
•Opted in by default. Your eBay listings will be automatically submitted for consideration for eBay Express, unless you choose to opt-out. You can opt-out through a My eBay preference, starting the week of 3/20.

What are the eligibility criteria?
Use this checklist to ensure your listings are eligible for eBay Express.
Seller Criteria
• Maintain a feedback score of 100 or more, 98% positive or better
• Maintain a public feedback profile (e.g., no private feedback)
• Support your listings with a PayPal Premier or PayPal Business account
• Set your PayPal account to ship to unconfirmed addresses or make sale-by-sale decisions (“Ask me for unconfirmed addresses”)
• Be a US or CA registered seller
Listing Criteria
• List on eBay.com
• List in fixed price format or Stores Inventory format
• Fill in the item condition field (i.e. New, Used, Refurbished) in Item Specifics.
• Include shipping costs (flat, calculated or free) in Shipping fields
• Provide a picture or gallery
• Use eBay checkout or the new checkout integration API (for 3rd party order processing)
• Item located in the US
Some categories are exempted from the item condition requirement. See list http://pages.ebay.com/sell/itemcondition/exceptions/
Included Categories
• The majority of eBay.com categories will be in eBay Express.
• A few categories will not be included. ee list http://pages.ebay.com/sell/itemcondition/list/.
There are two main reasons for excluding categories. The first is because the category is not covered by PayPal Buyer Protection, e.g. motor vehicles. The second is because Category Managers are still working with the community on representing the category in eBay Express, e.g. certain Collectibles categories where industry standards on item condition do not exist.

Why do you require shipping to unconfirmed address? What about Seller Protection?
Buyers used to the typical e-commerce experience often ship their purchases to multiple addresses. For example, a buyer may ship his/her purchases to a work or gift address. Shipping addresses that are not the buyer’s billing address are typically unconfirmed addresses.
We allow buyers to ship to unconfirmed addresses as eBay Express is targeted at buyers interested in a more conventional e-commerce experience,.
Shipping to an unconfirmed addresses means the transaction is not covered by PayPal’s Seller Protection. PayPal continues to make best efforts to protect you. Sellers however do need to evaluate the potential increase in sales from selling to a wider group of buyers versus the risk of losing PayPal Seller Protection for some of those sales.
There are tools to manage this risk:
• If you only want to do business with confirmed addresses, you can ensure that your listings do not appear in eBay Express
(a) Opt-out from eBay Express using the My eBay Preference and/or
(b) Set your PayPal account to “block unconfirmed addresses”.
• If you would like to decide on a sale-by-sale basis whether you will accept unconfirmed addresses, set your PayPal account to “Ask me before accepting payments from unconfirmed addresses”. Just like eBay.com today, buyers can still leave feedback even if the select rejects the buyer’s payment.
There is additional information on managing chargebacks and the protection from a PayPal account in a recent workshop http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000208657

A new finding experience
eBay Express has a new search experience that is different from eBay.com.
• New category structure. eBay Express has up to 3 levels of categories. A listing may appear in more than one category, e.g. Printers may be found in
(a) “Computers & Networking > Printers”, and
(b) “Office Supplies > Printers”
• Results sorted by “best matches”. Results are by default sorted on relevancy against the buyer’s search. Searching brings back listings that may not be an exact keyword match and sorts them based on a range of factors. The buyer has the ability to resort by total cost, i.e. item price plus shipping cost.
This new search experience was piloted last summer as “Testing a new way to Shop”. We have incorporated the community’s feedback into the eBay Express finding experience.

Hi Friends, thrilled about eBay Express! Four quick concerns I want to ask you about: -what happens when my listing template has cross-links to my eBay auction-format listings (not eligible for the eBay Express shopping cart) -- will we be confusing buyers here? -if a goal is a safer buying experience, is there consideration of anything safer than 100 feedback (which you can obtain as a buyer), e.g., return policy, 500+ SELLING feedback, etc.? -how will you measure if EE turns into a magnet for buyer fraud, where you can buy and charge back against sellers knowing they are not protected? -finally, can you share some of the plans for marketing the new site? Thanks so much -- can't wait to begin! -David Yaskulka

Re: Post #5
Hi virtualcandy,
Great to have you here today! Some answers to your questions:
1) The only listings that will show up on eBay Express are Fixed Price or Stores Inventory format. The auction format is not compatible with eBay Express, so listings that are Auction with BIN will not show up on Express.
2) eBay Express will display listings that have multiple payment options, however these other payment options will not be available to buyers on eBay Express. The other payment options will still be available to buyers on eBay.com
3) Yes. eBay Express will include listings that include Best Offer, however buyers on eBay Express will not be able to make offers on eBay Express. Buyers will still be able to make offers on eBay.com.
Hope this helps & Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Will the normal auction procedure still be used also and if so is the categories for listing going to look the same as before or am I missing something. I am still learning about E-bay and have a variety of inventory from a brick and mortar businesses I am closing down? I am used to the auction site as that's what I learned on. But can utilize the buy-it-now approach for a good many items that are new or antiques. The question is, is the auction area changing also. K.C.

Good afternoon Pinks. Question #1: My primary category on this ID (Pokemon cards) will be excluded from EE at launch. Is eBay planning to expand the categories participating in EE in the future, so that someday my Pokemon cards would be included? Question #2: EE is being promoted as "• Get it now. Everything on eBay is offered at fixed price. No bidding, no waiting." However, the items I sell in my second store (handmade doll clothes) can take up to 30 days to ship. Will the emphasis in EE be on buying it now, or GETTING it now? As there are many sellers of items like mine (pre-sales, or custom made items) where buying it now does not mean its available for shipment ASAP. Question #3 : How will sellers be able to sell if a sale was made through eBay Express? For my own statistical tracking, I would like a way to see the impact (if any) EE is having on my businesses. Thanks in advance,

Hi Adam - Just for clarification, event tickets will be part of eBay Express and the total purchase will be covered. So, if I pay $2,200.00 per ticket for Super Bowl tickets and I never get them, I'm covered for what I paid. There is no "guarantee" regarding replacement of tickets right? Thanks, Tony
