eBay Workshop: Feedback Manipulation - October 7th

Sep 29, 2005 2:29 PM
Topic: eBay Workshop: Feedback Manipulation

Host: eBay Staff
Date: Friday 10/07
Time: 11:00 to 12:00 PDT
Location: Workshop Board

Description: Feedback is the foundation of trust on eBay. Purchasing, selling or trading feedback undermines the integrity of the feedback system and decreases trust within the eBay marketplace. The new Feedback Manipulation policy, which replaces the Feedback Solicitation policy, enables us to take action against members when we identify a pattern of behavior consistent with feedback manipulation. Join Brian Burke, Senior Manager, eBay Marketplace to learn more about this policy change, how it will have a positive impact on the eBay marketplace, and to get answers to your questions about the policy.

Hope you can join us!!!!

Does the new way for feedback mean you can change feedback?

Currently the only thing I can see is the question & answer session for this topic. Is there an actual workshop presentation that I'm not able to find, or is the question and answer session the workshop?

1to1sales,

No. Once feedback is left, members may not change the comment or rating they left. Members may use Mutual Feedback Withdrawal to retract a rating if both members agree.

What can be done if you leave feedback for a person, but they don't leave feedback for you?

Hi dianarth,

The way it works is that you ask your questions, and our team will respond. You can hit the Refresh button on your browser to see the answer.

Let me know if you have any questions about the format. :)

DIANARTH,
Nothing can be done. Feedback is not compulsory. You can send a nice note asking for feedback, but most people seem to resent this. Feedback is entirely voluntary. Leave it if you like, but don't necessarily expect anything in return.

I guess I would also like to know what feedback manipulation is and how do users manipulate feedback?

eBay Workshop: Feedback Manipulation - October 7th

Oct 7, 2005 11:19 AM
khanomak & maidenswreath,

There were some new feedback changes announced at eBay live this past June. The first major change is the "90 day suspension policy", where members indefinitely suspended within the first 90 days of registration will have all of the feedback they've left removed. For more information on these changes see the post: Link

This workshop is regarding the new Feedback Manipulation policy which was introduced last week. This policy addresses the practice of artificially enhancing a member’s reputation, rather than provide commentary on genuine transactional experience is not permitted. In the past we only took action when a seller actively solicited feedback in their listing and we didn’t remove the feedback.

Thanks.
