eBay Workshop: Finding the Right Seller Tool - Sept 22

Sep 22, 2006 1:57 PM
Welcome to "Finding the Right Seller Tool" workshop.

Thanks for joining us here today. My name is Anar, and I am a Product Manager here at eBay focused on Seller Tools. With me here today, we have our entire team from multiple areas of eBay from marketing, product management, usability and development and we will spend the next hour here with you sharing some information about our Seller Tools (SYI, Turbo Lister, Selling Manager, Selling Manager Pro, File Exchange, Blackthorne Basic, Blackthorne Pro) and answering your questions.

For this workshop, I will quickly review a wide variety of selling tools offered by eBay - ranging from listing items to sales management. Depending on your selling needs you can choose the tool the best suits your need. Note: We will not cover all the eBay tool offering. We will cover the following tools: SYI, Turbo Lister, My eBay(Selling), Selling Manager, Selling Manager Pro, File Exchange, Blackthorne Basic, Blackthorne Pro).

Following this we will dedicate the remaining time to answer specific questions you might have.

eBay Workshop: Finding the Right Seller Tool - Sept 22

Sep 22, 2006 1:57 PM
Deirdre,
Since I've been over on the Seller Discussion board complaining about the ridiculous new SYI, I thought it only fair that I participate in this workshop. Can anyone there tell me, and others, what is up with the new SYI and why it is being forced on the sellers before the glitches are all worked out?! You mentioned the upcoming holiday season, and of course that's the peak season for all sellers, but those of us who have tried to struggle with the new SYI form see it as a bad sign for the holiday sales. Implying that the new form is a tool is a joke. A tool is used to facilitate an action. The way the new form works, filled with glitches and bloated with superfluous pop-ups and drop downs...its anything but a "tool". Imagine how depressing that is to seller facing the holiday season! It would be nice to actually get some answers. There are dozens of frustrated sellers on the other board, and doubtless thousands of others who don't know where to turn for answers. Thank you. Sue

Don't wnat to sound stupid but what is SYI stand for?

I currently use Selling Manager Pro, Turbo Lister 2 and ebay store.

Tried to use blackthorne but found it wasn't that easy to work with and gave up on it after the trial period.

eBay Workshop: Finding the Right Seller Tool - Sept 22

I am what I would consider a mid-volume seller, who started out as a hobbyist. I want to switch to a all-in-one but do not know what would be better for me. I currently use Turbo Lister 1 and do not like the New Turbo Lister as I find it much more difficult to use. I know that Ebay is going to stop supporting the original turbo lister soon and would like to switch to something else but am worried about either losing all of my listings that are written but not uploaded or taking a lot more time to write each individual listing. Are there any resources that you would suggest for help in learning these new programs?

eBay Workshop: Finding the Right Seller Tool - Sept 22

Hi suejaysclay,

Thanks for your post, and for your concern over the new Sell Your Item form. Miyuki and I have both been closely monitoring the thread on the Seller Central board and have been working hard with our team here to iron out the remaining issues with the new flow.

First, let me say that we are definitely not forcing the new flow onto members. All members have a way to opt-out and go back to using the old flow, and the old flow is absolutely going to be available at least until early next year. To go back to the old flow, just click on the Sell button at the top of any eBay page, and then click "List using the original Sell Your Item form."

We do acknowledge that we have had some glitches in the system the past few weeks, but we have been monitoring sellers that are using the new flow very closely. The vast majority of sellers have been able to list items successfully - and do it faster - with the new form. We do know that it takes folks a while to get used to the new flow, because it is radically different, so there is a bit of a learning curve.

If you are still facing issues with the new form, I would encourage you to detail them out on the Seller Central thread, and we'll work hard to get them fixed for you!

Thanks,
Nate

What is the advantage to using Blackthorn versus Selling Manager pro as it seems they do many of the same things?

Is one better then the other? Or do you need both to really run an ebay business and store?
