Hello everyone,

Thank you for joining us today. Today’s workshop will focus on why you should include shipping costs in your listing, as well as describing features that were rolled out in September affecting the Shipping Calculator and how shipping costs are displayed to buyers.

We look forward to your participation

In September 2006 we announced enhancements to the shipping calculator and the way in which shipping is displayed to buyers:

For sellers who are using the new Sell Your Item form

Here’s a screenshot of the changes to the new Sell Your Item form with numbers corresponding to the areas mentioned below. Here is a summary of the new features:

  • Use the dynamic eBay Shipping Calculator for your international buyers while still offering flat rate shipping for domestic buyers. [Area 1 on screenshot]

  • More flexibility through UPS when using Flat Rate Shipping. You’ll be able to specify a separate shipping cost to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico when shipping via any Flat Rate UPS shipping service. [Area 2 on screenshot]

  • Offer different shipping insurance options/costs to domestic versus international buyers. [Area 3 on screenshot]

  • The ability to charge different handling fees to domestic versus international buyers when using the eBay Shipping Calculator. [Area 3 on screenshot]

For buyers

  • Shipping costs automatically calculated on item pages. Just like with search results, when we know the buyer’s location, we’ll automatically calculate shipping costs on the item page for any listing using the Shipping Calculator. This will not only save buyers time, but will help put sellers using the calculator on equal footing with non-calculator sellers (since their buyers no longer need to make that extra click to learn about shipping).

  • Shipping cost section easier to read on the bottom of your listing. We’re making the display of shipping costs on the item page cleaner and easier to scan.

Here are a couple of screenshots of the changes to the item page.

1) Flat Rate Domestic Shipping

2) Flat Rate Domestic and Calculated International Shipping with different Insurance options for both

3) Same Listing as number 2) but what a Belgium buyer would see visiting the same page. Remember we only show the shipping cost that is relevant to your location!

4) Flat Rate Domestic and Flat Rate International Shipping

when shipping by UPS , FedExm,and DHL, they all have specific requirements for the packaging of the goods to comply with their tariff disclosures. When setting Shipping costs should we determine the packaging costs by calculating the special packaging these company require for goods to meet their standards.

Thanks ozzie3,

We regularly receive updated data from the shipping partners to ensure the costs reflected in the eBay shipping calculator are accurate. Does this answer your question?

Regarding return policies, we encourage sellers to specify clear return policies in their listings. Can you clarify your question further?
