Welcome to the Listing Items With the New Sell Your Item (SYI) Form workshop. My name is Mike and I'm part of the team at eBay that works on our listing forms. We have most of the members of the SYI team here today and we will spend the next hour sharing some ideas and answering your questions on creating listings with SYI.

I'll start with a short overview of some of the important features of SYI and then we can spend the remainder of the time answering specific questions that you might have.

When you create a brand-new listing, you begin on the Sell page where you can choose how you want to select a category to list your item. You choices are to browse categories, utilize recently used categories, or get recommendations from eBay after entering in a few words that describe the item you are selling.

From the category selection page you can choose the category, or categories, that you want to list the item in. On this page you can always switch to "Recently Used Categories", "Browse for Categories" or "Search for Categories" if you want to change the method you use to select your category if the recommendations do not suggest a category that you think is appropriate.

Once you are in the SYI form, you probably will want to add pictures to your listing. To add pictures to your listing, click on the "Add Picture" button on the form. When you open up the pictures area, you can upload your pictures to eBay or use self-hosted picture services if you self-host your pcitures on another site.

If you are trying to use self-hosted picture services and you do not see that option available, you can customize the form and add this to your listing. To customize the form, click on the help question mark on the page to activate help and select hide/show options. Or, at the top of the SYI form click on the "Show/Hide" options link at the top of the page.

After you click on hide/show options you can select to show self-hosted picture services on the SYI form. There are many options you can customize in order to tailor the form to fit your needs.

Specifying your shipping options is an important part of your listing. In SYI we give you maximum control to specify different shipping options for domestic and international shipments. For example, you can specify flat rate to domestic buyers and use the international shipping calculator for international shipments.

If you do not see these options, and you want to, you can customize the SYI form and add this to your listing. Go to Hide/Show options and you can select the shipping options that you want to see on the SYI form.

After clicking "Save and continue" you will get to the review page where you can select the listing upgrades to your listings. If you need to go back to the previous page and make edits to your listing, click on the "edit listing" link and this will take you back.

When you are ready to list your item, at the bottom of the page is the "List Your Item" button. When you click on this button your listing will be submitted to eBay. It is possible to check the "Save this listing as a template" check box and in doing so, your listing will be saved as a template that you can re-use to begin your next listing. We have seen sellers create multiple templates for each type of item that they sell and it really helps them cut down on the time it takes them to list.

On this final page in Sell Your Item we show you what listing upgrades you have selected and what you will be charged for your listing. We also offer recommendations to your listing that will increase the likelihood of success of your listing.

I have been having issues with the new SYI form changing my HTML when I use Firefox as a browser for quite some time. Is this something that is going to be addressed before they retire the old SYI form ?
Thanks
Candance

Hi bubbadah,
It is possible to do a sell similar and use the new form - sell similar will work exactly the same way the old form does.

Hi candances,

Sorry about the HTML trouble you are having. We are aware of the problem, and in the process of addressing it. In the meantime, if you try not to switch between the HTML and Standard tabs in Firefox, then you will have fewer problems.

Thanks,
-Miyuki

On a relist or revise, most of the show/hide options are changed from their original settings. Why in the world would you guys make it do this? If we want to change the parms, we'll change them. If we don't want to, don't make us HAVE to change them. It's a complete waste of time to go back and change Item Details, Format, Payment Options, etc.. It is NOT a helpful thing to have it do that!!

Hi Mike... Hi Deirdre... Thanks for the workshop. In using SYI3 one of the most powerful features is the Template. Your handouts say that SYI3 is 20% faster... by my own experience I could up that to 50% by creating and using my Templates. Here's my question... When you first click the Sell Button, the templates are not available. Page 1 asks what are you going to sell? (No Templates) Page 2 asks you to select a catagory. Page 3 tells you to sign in to Selling. Page 4 Enter Description. To get to my templates I have to go to the very top of the 4th page where it shows home > sell > describe your item (or similar) I have to go there and click sell, and I am returned to page 1 where my templates now show. Obviously, the Templates won't show until I sign in to Sell. Why have you moved the Sign In to the 3rd Page... wouldn't it be simpler to Sign In on page #1 so all my options (including unfinished descriptions) are available?

Cheers!
Terry
