eBay Workshop: Listing Items with the New Sell Your Item Form - Sept 13

Now let’s get started!

1. How to add a second category to my listing
Did you know that you can add a second relevant category to your listing, so that your listing is exposed to more potential buyers in searches?

Here’s how to do it in the new listing form.
If you are finding your first category by browsing, click on the Add a second category link highlighted in the following screen
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The Add a second category link grays out on the bottom. Now you can go ahead and select another category inside the Browse for categories screen
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I’ve selected the second category and am ready to move on. Double-check the two categories underneath “Categories you have selected” to make sure those are what you want

If you are starting off by doing a search for categories, go to the “Search for categories” tab, enter your keyword first, and click on search. You will see a list of categories like the following screen

You can then select two categories by checking any two categories you would like.

You can select two categories even if they don’t show up in a single search. For example, say that I have a digital camera and a flash card that I would like to list together in two categories. First, I search for “camera” and the following comes up in the search results
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Then I select the first category for the digital camera. The bottom of the screen shows that I have the first category selected
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

For the second category, I enter “flash card” in the search box and click on the search button
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Then I select my second category for the flash card

If you are using Recently Used Categories, switch to the “Recently used categories” tab, and check any two categories you wish.

2. Adding a Gallery picture to my listing
Using a good gallery picture in your listing is very important. It draws more attention to your item in the search results, and thereby increases your chances of selling. Our statistics show that items with Gallery pictures can sell for 14% more than those without.

After picking a category for your item, you will be taken to the Sell: Create Your Listing page. Go to the Pictures section under the Describe your item section, and add several pictures first. For instructions on how to add your pictures, please see the last workshop. You will see your picture section look something like this:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Check the Gallery Picture option
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

If you are happy with the first picture selected, then you are done. Otherwise, click on the Change Picture button
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Then click on the picture you want to be displayed when your item shows up in the search result

3. How to customize my selling form
Did you know that you can actually customize your selling form in the new listing flow? You can shorten the Create Your Listing page to include only the options that are required and the options you need.

There are multiple ways to do this:
- On the top of the Create Your Listing page, click on the Show/Hide Options link or the icon to the right.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It should bring up the following popup window
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

For example, if you would like to use Visitor counter, you can check the Visitor counter option inside the Item Details area, and click on save. Visitor counter will appear on your form after that.

- In each section of the page you would like to customize, you can click on the circle with a bubble in it. If you never use Return Policy, and would like to remove it from your form, you can click on the circle with a bubble right next to the Additional Information heading.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It will take you to the popup window with the Additional section already displayed:

Then just uncheck the Return Policy item and click on Save. Your screen will refresh and Return Policy will be removed from your page.

4. How to use calculated shipping
Specifying shipping is very important as well. Buyers are more confident in their purchase if they know upfront how much the item will cost them in total. Our recent buyer study shows that a buyer is more likely to buy from a seller who specifies a reasonable shipping fee for the item. You can have the shipping cost calculated automatically for you to save you time and money. We will calculate the shipping cost for you based on the buyer’s location.

Here are the steps to specify calculated shipping for domestic shipping:
First of all, make sure you select the “Multiple Domestic Shipping” option in the Shipping section of the Show/Hide Option window and save it
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Now, underneath Cost, select “Calculated: based on buyer’s address”, and you will see the following screen

If I’m shipping a regular package, I will leave the Package Size selection at “Package (or thick envelope)”. Then enter the weight of the package (make sure all the packaging materials are already included). I will enter the package weight as 1 lb and 6 oz. If you are using USPS Priority only, you can just use the “1 lb or less”, “1+ to 2 lb” values, etc.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Pick up to three shipping services you are willing to offer on the item
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

In the Domestic Handling Time drop-down box, select the number of days it typically takes you to ship an item after receiving payment.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

You can also specify shipping insurance here. For “Optional”, we will calculate the insurance based on the final sales price for you, but give the buyer the option to include it or not. If you pick “Required”, the calculated insurance fee will always be added to the item total. Otherwise, no shipping insurance amount will be calculated. We will show Shipping insurance not offered in the item if you select “Not Offered”, or included in Shipping & Handling if you select that option.

The last step is adding a handling cost to total shipping fee if there is any. It may include the shipper box you need to purchase and packaging materials for fragile items. This cost will not be shown to the buyer separately, but will be added to the calculated shipping total.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

That’s it! Now you can just let us figure out the shipping cost for you, and print your shipping label directly from PayPal once your item sells.

5. How to specify international shipping
To maximize your profit on selling an item, you can also offer to ship your item worldwide. According to our statistics, items that sell internationally through PayPal can increase the final sales price by 16%.

The easiest way is to offer calculated shipping for international, where we will calculate all the fees for you. First, make sure you select the “Multiple domestic & int’l services” option in the Shipping section of the Show/Hide Option window and save it
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I will use the same example in the specifying calculated shipping section. In addition to the fields you need to fill out for domestic, you just need to choose up to three international services. In my example, I will choose USPS Airmail Parcel Post to Canada only
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The second one will be USPS Economy Parcel Post to Asia only
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The last one will be USPS Global Express to the world
