Regarding post 22:
Borders specifically will not cause problems with natural search, but in general - content is more important than pictures or images. So beware of loading too many graphics into a page (Store, Guide, etc) without enough content or text. Google, Yahoo and MSN aren't able to decipher the meaning of pictures in the way that they might understand the text.

Hopefully this helps!

Regarding post 28: Google and Froogle should automatically crawl and find individual pages - so you shouldn't need to submit each listing for instance.

Reallygreatstuff - in response to post 21, this is a very difficult issue to resolve. As you mention, because many auctions are short-lived, by the time search engine crawlers "find" them, the auction may be over. This is the biggest challenge with granting search engines access to item pages.

I can tell you that we are actively working with the major search engines to resolve this issue. In many ways, they recognize its not the ideal search experience and want to improve it too. However, please keep in mind that ultimately the search engines control what pages they index and what results are displayed on their sites, not eBay.

Thanks!

Are there keyword research tools for eBay searching that have similar functionality of WordTracker or GoodKeyWords, but use data from eBay internal searches?

Post 29:

There are a couple ways to answer that question. First - the strongest keywords for you personally are the ones that are related to what you are selling or specializing in. If you sell Blackberry Cell Phones, thats your most important keyword and you should optimize for it. Those keywords should be repeated throughout the page.

If you are looking for popular keywords in general, eBay has Link which shows whats popular on eBay and Yahoo has Link which shows the most searched terms on Yahoo.

You speak about KEY words usage in your listings......how does one find out what those key words are???? I keep hearing about this and haven't a clue as to what are key and what are not.

When submitting url to search engines, should we link to our store, our About Me Page, all of our listings individually or everything?? We have about 1,400 items in our store now and we add more every day.

Post 30:

You should feel free to submit your store homepage to the engines. If you are only submitting your major pages, that shouldn't be a problem.

Take advantage of your high ranking About Me page by linking of it to your other important pages - such as your store! Another good way is to write guides in Reviews and Guides and products or topics that are related to your store... you then can add a link to your store and that helps with natural search linking, finding, etc!

At what point does using strong keywords drift over into keyword spam or using too many comparison keywords?

You can create your About Me Page here: Link

You can also learn more here:

Submitting new pages can sometimes take a while for the search engines - particularly if its a new website. One of the reasons new pages get indexed well and quickly on eBay is that eBay.com has a very strong pagerank and popularity already!

Hi mermaidstudiobeads - in response to post 27, I assume that you are referring to the item description which appears on the eBay Item Page. The same SEO principles and rules that apply to all pages across the Web also apply to eBay Item and other pages. You should think of page optimization on eBay the same way you think about search engine optimization in general. Focus on great content, good titles, and using the right keywords.

Keep in mind that there are some specific eBay policies regarding HTML and linking that you should adhere to.

Thanks!

In response to post 38:

You do not (and should not) submit each of your listings... too much effort and time! Besides, submitting your most important pages (About Me, Store, etc) provides Google an entrance into your listings. All the engines are looking for is a starting point =)
