What is Natural Search

"Natural” or β€œorganic" search refers to the unpaid search results within search engines like Google, MSN, and Yahoo. There are two main search classifications: natural search and paid search. While paid search refers to all pay-per-click advertising (such as Google AdWords and Overture), natural search refers to all unpaid search results based on relevance.

Improving your natural search rankings can deliver significantly more traffic to your listings, store, about me, etc… in turn, this can mean improved sales and conversions for you.

What is the key to top natural search rankings?

Take a look at these results on Google & Yahoo for the term β€œCount Dooku” (a Star Wars character!) and notice where eBay places:

What is the key to top natural search rankings

Simply put – CONTENT IS KING!
The content on your pages and listings is what readers find useful - likewise, it’s what the search engines find useful. Make sure to place strong, relevant keywords throughout the page body and in text. Place pertinent keywords within your headers by using header tags (H1, H2, etc). Keywords can also be stressed by bold and italics formatting. If, for instance, your About Me page is dedicated to your Lord Dooku collection, you want to make sure that the content and keywords placed on the page are all relevant and surrounded with great Lord Dooku-related content.

What are other keys to natural search success?

# Great Keywords: Whether you are writing a Guide, an About Me page, your eBay Store, or a new listing – its important to have relevant, matching keywords in the title and body. Notice the strong usage of the most important keywords in this Nike Frees (a sneaker) guide:

Link

# Linking: it is important to link via text links as this assists the search engines by pointing them towards related pages. Your About Me page, for instance, should highlight your Stores Page and perhaps your most relevant search results pages.

# Submit Your Webpage to the Engines: Most of the search engines (Google, Yahoo!, AltaVista, etc) allow you to submit your site for free; upon entering your URL, email contact, and other pertinent information, the search engine directs its crawlers to enter your site. You can submit your pages here:

Google: Link
Yahoo: Link
MSN: Link

What can you do to drive Natural Search Success:

1. Create an About Me page
2. Continue to add strong content to the body of your listings and view item pages (they are open to the search engines!)
3.If you have an eBay Store, add lots of content about yourself, your listings, etc.
4. Visit Link and write high-quality reviews and guides
