eBay Workshop: New Feedback System Change - September 26th

Sep 6, 2005 12:48 PM
Topic: eBay Workshop: New Feedback System Change

Host: eBay Staff
Date: Monday 09/26
Time: 14:00 - 15:00 PDT
Location: Workshop Board

Description: Later this month, eBay will begin removing all feedback from users who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of their registration. Our belief is that members who are indefinitely suspended within 90 days of their registration were never truly members of the Community. Therefore, their feedback should not count. Do you have questions about this new change in the Feedback system? Please join Brian Burke, Senior Marketplace Policy Manager, Amjad Hanif (Group Product Manager), and Jon Logan (Product Manager) and other eBay staffers to learn about 1) what this change to the Feedback system means, 2) how it works, 3) why we believe this change is important for the Community, 4) what other changes are planned for the Feedback system. This session will be dedicated entirely to questions and concerns about this new Feedback system change.

Hope you can join us!

eBay Workshop: New Feedback System Change - September 26th

Sep 26, 2005 2:01 PM
Hi, Deirdre.

I'm a little confused about the difference between a "suspended" user and an "indefinitely suspended" user. How exactly does eBay differentiate between the two (i.e. what can cause indefinite suspension), and is it possible for other users to know when somebody is indefinitely suspended, other than seeing the resulting change in feedback?

Also, I'm assuming that the feedback will be removed automatically, but will affected users be told (by email, for instance) when it happens and, more importantly, why it happened? My concern is that users who lose positive feedback won't fully understand what is going on, and will be understandably upset as a result.
I hope reading my stupid sig line
is the HIGHLIGHT of your day.

Could we also discuss not allowing SELLERS to have private feedback? My personal belief is that if you are a seller, then your feedback should be allowed to be viewed by others in order to make a decision as to the justification of the negative count before you make a purchase.

Also, can we look into stopping the practice of hiding bidders identity in many categories. I can understand a mature or personal category needing that but there is never a reason to have, for example, the pottery category as such...sellers who use that in those categories are 99% of the time selling fakes.

When newer buyers get burned, we ALL loose money then because they don't trust ebay after that. Which, in turn, means lower sales and less profit for ebay as well.

Just some ideas......

eBay Workshop: New Feedback System Change - September 26th

Sep 26, 2005 2:06 PM
Hi,
My user ID is threerotties. I have had one negative feedback from a guy who posted the feedback without finding out about shipping costs. This feedback is restricting me from receiving 100% and HE IS NO LONGER A REGISTERED USER!!
I would like his feedback removed so that I can receive 100% feedback.
IS THIS POSSIBLE???
Thanks Cory [threerotties]

I am excited to learn about the latest feedback update because I have one negative left by a bidder that fits the criteria to a tee! I would like to know when I can expect to see the negative removed and my good name restored? Thank you!

eBay Workshop: New Feedback System Change - September 26th

My question is about the new feedback policy of removing negative feedback from members who were expelled within 3 months of joining ebay. I was told on Live Help the other day that this would be retroactive and that ebay would do is automatically for me. This has not happened so far. Is there a request I need to make?

eBay Workshop: New Feedback System Change - September 26th

Hello
I have a question. In the 7 years or so that I've been accumlating feedback on this account, feedback has gone through many changes. Since many of the recent changes, including the new ones that you have proposed, were not available prior to this point and old accounts have lots of feedback that would have been removed under the new and proposed policies. Will there be some type of notation or changes on the feedback page (or the "learn about what these number mean" page).. Shouldn't you add a clause adding the date the changes were made and the fact that the old feedback were under different policies? (Didn't you add something like that in 1999 when you could no longer leave non-transactional feedback?) :) Thanks

If a user has been suspended, but is actively trying to appeal that suspension, why remove the feedback???

havinfun77777,

Yes, positives can also be removed.

We did this to keep the system balanced, as it would be unfair to only remove negatives or neutrals.

Thanks for the question,

Jon Logan

Hello, I would love to look forward to a time when an early undeserved Negative Feedback could be removed. I have one that happened years ago, before there was recourse for negotiating a removal. That person still has a (0) feedback, hasn't bid on anything since. Is there a time limit for a person to be inactive? If not, does it seem fair for a person to mess up and leave neg. feedback, then just abandon their status as a registered user.

Members won’t be able to distinguish between an indefinite suspension and a suspension that will result in a reinstatement.

The goal of the project is to identify those individuals that are suspended for reasons that suggest we don’t want them in the marketplace.

It’s not for suspension where the member can take an action (such as pay their eBay bill, or provide eBay with confirmed contact information) to be reinstated.

The removal will be automatic and memebrs will be notified via email that the feedback was removed because the member was indefinitely suspended within 90 days of registration.
