Description: Reviews & Guides is a new site on ebay (Link) that allows users to read and write product reviews and topical guides – in fact, we already have 1,000s of reviews and guides live on the site! Now that Reviews & Guides has been live for a few weeks, we invite you to join us to learn more about the site, learn more about products before making your purchase, and learn how you can use reviews and guides to drive more traffic to your listings! We look forward to having you join us.

Hello everyone! Thank you for attending the second Reviews & Guides workshop!

Our first workshop occurred just days after Link launched and can be found at Link.

Reviews & Guides has now been live on eBay for a few weeks and we’ve had some excellent responses by eBay members! There are now 1,000s of reviews and nearly 2,500 unique guides on the site! We will start with a brief introduction / recap of Reviews & Guides, then describe some new functions and upcoming features, and end by answering as many of your questions as we can!

Overview of Reviews & Guides

I am Ryan and I am joined by Wilson – both of us closely involved with eBay's new Reviews & Guides section (Link).

Reviews & Guides is an interactive platform on eBay for users to share opinions and expertise on any product or topic. We are excited about eBay Reviews & Guides because it enables users to communicate with one another – whether buyers, sellers or just active community members – or, whether you’re looking to research a particular movie or share your expertise about a specific topic or idea – Reviews & Guides is the place to do it!

Overview of Reviews

Reviews are written on specific products. For example, to reviews a specific DVD – lets use Batman Begins as an example – you would visit Link and do one of the following:

1) Do a search for Batman Begins and then click on a specific product. Now you can read or write reviews for that particular product! Take a look!

2) Browse by that product’s category – in this case, you would click on “DVD” and notice that Batman Begins is in that list!

Are Reviews surfaced in eBay Search?

When searching for products on eBay, you will find links to reviews on the product details page – using the same example, take a look at the Batman Begins product page

Overview of Guides

Guides are topical pieces of content that can be written on almost any subject. We have guides on all sorts of subjects – from eBay shipping and selling to cookie jars, to Tom Cruise to Red Sox jerseys, and from kinds of dog hair to Star Wars holographs.

You can see all guides, sorted by date

You can also see the most popular / helpful guides

You will also notice that on the homepage, Link there are a variety of guides that appear – eBay Guides, the Most Helpful Member Guides, and the Most Recent Member Guides. The homepage updates with each new guide, so be sure to check back regularly!

Benefits to Authors & Sellers

We have already seen Reviews & Guides drive great value to authors – writing reviews and guides can drive significant traffic to your listings, store, about me page, etc. Each guide has a box on it that links to the author’s items for sale, about me page, store, etc – That is useful for readers and visitors… and it’s also useful for the search engines, which are able to find those new pages!

Additionally, reviews and guides have done very well in search engines because there is such great content on the pages! There are tons of great examples, but many of the guides rank very well in search. For example, search Google for Red Sox Jersey - #1!

Search Google for Artisan Glass Beads - #1!|

There are tons of great examples!

More importantly, reviews and guides are a great way to connect with buyers and sellers and deliver trust to the community. The result is that reviews and guides are driving additional bids and traffic – very exciting!!

Coming VERY Soon to eBay … In Just a Few Days!

We have a lot of features and enhancements in the works, but in the coming days we some very exciting pieces that will arrive onsite… so be on the look out!

User Content Page – Each writer will have his/her own page with all of the reviews and guides! This will drive extra traffic to your content and be a great way to browse reviews and guides!

Reviewer Rankings – Right now, you can view the most popular Member Guides – but coming very soon, you we will have icons for the top reviewers! Currently there is a “reviewer icon” that is achieved when you accumulate enough ‘helpfulness votes’ … There will also be a icons that reflect your rankings!

Much more is coming soon – and a lot of that has been mentioned on the Reviews & Guides board – but will take a little longer to arrive! More to come!
