Tip #1: Always specify reasonable shipping costs
The most important shipping best practice is to specify reasonable shipping costs in your listing. Listings with specified shipping costs have higher conversion rates and earn higher Detailed Seller Ratings scores than items with unspecified shipping. You can specify the shipping cost in the Shipping Details are of the Sell Your Item form.

Tip #2: Ship within 24 hours of receiving payment
Particularly during the holidays, buyers are eager to get their items quickly. Clearly specify how many days you take to ship your items – 24 hours is the best practice. Shipping quickly will earn you higher Detailed Seller Ratings scores. To be ready to ship quickly, make sure you have the box and all the packaging supplies you need on hand when you list your item.

Tip #3: Save time and money with the PayPal Label Printing Solution
The PayPal Label Printing solution is a great way to purchase and print shipping labels right from your home or office. There are no fees. You pay only the actual cost of shipping.

And printing shipping labels on PayPal can save you money! You receive an automatic 8% discount on USPS Express Mail International® and a 5% discount on USPS Priority Mail International®. eBay sellers may be eligible for savings of up to 31% from UPS® when printing labels on PayPal. Visit ebay.com/shippinglabel to learn more.

Tip #4: Use the eBay Shipping Calculator
You can take the worry out of estimating shipping costs by using the eBay Shipping Calculator in your listings. It will automatically calculate the accurate shipping cost based on the buyer and sellers’ zip codes.

Tip #5: Pack it well!
Take extra care to pack your holiday items. You’ll want plenty of bubble wrap and packing supplies on hand in advance of the holiday season. Consider offering special holiday services like Ship-to-recipient, gift wrap, and express-shipping options help win over buyers, as well.

Tip #6 Give buyers a holiday bonus
Free shipping is a big draw for buyers, especially during the holiday shopping season. To offer free shipping in your listings, check the “Free shipping” box under Payment & Shipping when you list your item. “Free” will appear in the shipping-costs area of your listing. Listings with Free shipping will benefit from additional exposure, from buyers searching for good shipping deals.

Tip #7: Offer combined shipping discounts
When you use eBay’s Combined Shipping Discounts feature, buyers browsing your items will see messaging encouraging the purchase of multiple items in order to take advantage of your combined shipping discounts. You can learn more about combined shipping discounts here: http://pages.ebay.com/CombinedShipping/

Tip #8: Get an edge with “Price + Shipping” Sort
Specifying reasonable shipping costs can give you an advantage that pays off this holiday season and beyond. When buyers use “Price + Shipping: lowest to highest” to sort their search results, your listings will get priority over listings with higher total costs or listings that don’t specify shipping rates.

Tip #9: Pre-order free boxes
Ship your items safely and easily with free co-branded Priority Mail® supplies from the U.S. Postal Service®, delivered right to your door. Order yours at ebaysupplies.usps.com. You can even choose flat rate boxes, which ship anywhere in the US for $7.95.

Tip # 10: Save time with PayPal Multiorder Shipping
Print up to 50 domestic USPS® shipping labels with postage at one time on your home computer—right from your PayPal account. The service is free; you pay only the postage costs. Use the USPS® SCAN Form so postal employees can scan the bar codes for every package in your shipment at once. With enhanced PayPal tracking, shipping status is displayed automatically in your buyers’ My eBay accounts, so you are likely to get fewer shipping-status questions.

Tip #11: Extend your selling season
Satisfy last-minute buyers. Always let people know when they can expect their packages to ship, and use the Get It Fast icon (available at no charge) to advertise that you offer rush shipping. Choose Get It Fast in your shipping options; offer at least one domestic overnight
shipping service, and ship within one business day of receiving cleared payment.

Tip #12: Let your buyers know their package is coming
Once you have shipped your item it is a great idea to send your buyers an email to let them know it is coming, and include the tracking number. If you use the PayPal label printing solution, the tracking number will automatically be uploaded to the buyer’s order details page.

Give Buyers Timely Shipping Status
Today when sellers use the PayPal label printing solution to print their USPS and UPS shipping labels, their shipment information automatically updates in their buyers' Order Details pages, accessible from My eBay. Now other sellers will be able to easily pass along USPS and UPS shipment information to buyers by uploading tracking information either on their My eBay page or in Selling Manager.

If you do not use PayPal Shipping Labels, you can easily pass along USPS and UPS shipment information to buyers by uploading tracking information either on their My eBay page or in Selling Manager.

Hi-
This is my first official "training" with Ebay. Thanks for offering it!

I have a question re: Pay Pal shipping. If I print the labels, will I have to predetermine the cost of the necessary postage or does the USPS take it off of my paypal account when they scan/measure it?

I hope that makes sense! Thanks!
Heather

Hi Heather,
At time of printing the label, you will be asked to input weight and package size. Postage cost will be calculated based on your inputs and service selection. Once this is done, it is not necessary to have USPS measure or weigh again. You can even schedule USPS to pick up your package from your home if you are shipping via Priority Mail or Express Mail.

Great. Thanks. Is there a certain Avery label size that works with this or can it just be printed on paper and taped on?

I think the tips only point out to me that that no matter how hard I try, I can't anything "right" in eBay's eyes.

Hi Heather,
You can use either adhesive labels, or print it out on standard paper and securly tape it to the box. One note, don't cover the barcode when taping it :)

Hi ParadiseTreasure,
Are you referring to domestic First Class, or First Class Mail International? Can you tell me what problem you are running into - are you seeing an error message?

Thanks.

I use the shipping label offered in ebay and paypal, but have not tried the multiple shipping label. I hesitate because I am afraid i might not be able to identify what label goes on what package. Is the title identified on the label. and how do you go about putting in the measurements and weight. seems there is more of a chance to make a mistake?

How important is it to use and/or what is the advantage of the Scan Form with USPS Priority Shipping.

Related to that. The USPS Click & Ship site says that the Carrier can scan the form on pick-up. However, our carrier says she can not do that. Therefore, the advantage of not having to stand in line with Priority Mail is lost. Any comments?

Thanks

both.

Well before listing I am going to USPS website to see the cost of shipping in the US and the cost of shipping in Canada.

But when I make a sell I found later on with Paypal shipping label that I cannot track & pay as First Class (National or International). So, I have to go to priority OR go the post office.

How can I know when I am be able to use First Class and track the order to be able to be protect with Paypal

Thanks for the discussion. I'm in a rural area and live in fear of my printer dying on me -- is there a way to cancel the PayPal shipping if I've already entered everything, but find I can't print labels (or anything else). I wouldn't want to delay shipping while I'm trying to replace a printer. I'm probably worrying too much, but it did cross my mind -- hope it makes sense.
Regards,
Sue
