I had a question in the forum for which I got no reply

Some of my friends in USA have call screening to accept calls only from numbers they have encoded to their system. When I call them via SkypeOut I get taken each time via a screening loop to identify myself.

It will be very useful if my SkypeIn number could be returned as the CallerID, rather than some random 800 number of Skype in USA.

Such a feature will also promote the sale of SkypeIn numbers, and allow me to give my SkypeIn number for credit card activation etc.

Reading on Topic I find that Yahoo, Gizmo and some other VOIP services are providing this function

eBay Workshop: Skype – Free global Calls Using Your PC and the Internet

Hi, my question is about mics! I'd LOOOVE to use SKYPE but I've not been able to find a mic that works with my PC yet!

My computer is a Dell 8400 (purchased NEW in april of 2005). it's got TONS of memory, etc., but it doesn't seem to "recognize" any of the mics that I've tried. Since I've returned the various mics to the store, I can't tell you which ones they were, but if you have suggestions for a mic that would work with WinXP on a PC, I'm listening! (budget is somewhat of an issue for me, so $20 or so would be great ...)

Thanks!

Sound Check

Make sure you've got speakers and microphone. If you're using a webcam, many webcams have a microphone already. If your computer doesn't have speakers or a mic, you can buy a cheap ‘starter pack' on eBay or at www.Skype.com.

Making a Test Call

Your first call should be a test call, using the Skype Test Call contact (Echo123), to be sure your hardware and software are working properly

To Praireprimitives, try opening up your settings for your sound card, perhaps your microphone jack is not activated, I had that problem with my Dell. I hope this is helpful.

kavan - thanks for your input, sorry we didn't get to it any sooner.

At this time, we don't have SkypeIn as callerID for SkypeOut anywhere in the world. Making this happen is legally and technically a bit more complex than it seems at first glance, but we're working on it. We continue to innovate with various sender/callerID methods. As you can read here, with the newly released Skype SMS we actually support your mobile number as sender ID. I'm sure we will also see more developments on the SkypeOut callerID front.

regards,
Jaanus from Skype.

Blocking Strangers

You’ll notice that, when you look for contacts you know, you find other contacts that you don’t know. That means, other Skype users who you don’t know may try to contact you.

You always can manage this by Denying any new contact that you don’t recognize. No one can automatically be added to your contacts without your permission.

You can further restrict access, limiting contact to only those already in your contact list. However, that means that new Skype users who are your friends, won’t be able to contact you either. You can manage this from Tools > Options > Privacy.

reliantonlineservices -- SkypeOut, SkypeIn and Skype Voicemail are all separate offerings that you buy separately. However, when you buy SkypeIn, you get free Voicemail. If you wish, you can also buy only SkypeOut and Voicemail (without SkypeIn), or just Voicemail.

regards,
Jaanus from Skype.

Finding your contacts

Make a Contact List
.

Add Contact - To find Skype users and add them to your contact list.

Search – Search by Skype Name, User Name, or Email Address

Selecting the Right Contact – Once found, select the contact and click “Add Selected Contact”

Accept – Note is sent to your contact, asking that they add you to their Skype contact list. Contact must ‘accept’ you to be added to your list

Call your Contacts

To make a call (or chat), highlight a contact name in your contact list (you can see when contacts are available by the icons next to their names)

Click the green Call button to make a call. Or, you can double-click on the contact’s name. To start a chat session, instead of a call when you double-click, go to Tools>Options>General.

To end the call, click the red Hang Up button

I tried to put my HTML code for Skype in my current listings, and eBay would not accept the coded. It took it ok in my Turbo Lister listing editing, but I have not tried to upload any of these listings yet. I there another way to include Skype in my listings. Adding it to the listing by cut and paste when editing seems to not work.
