eBay Workshop: The shipping section in the Sell Your Item Form - Nov 20th

Nov 20, 2007 12:32 PM
Hi,
This is Mike with the Sell Your Item team and I'm here with a few of us from eBay who want to answer your questions about the shipping section in the Sell Your Item form.

Shipping is one of the most important aspects to your listing - buyers are looking for items with reasonable shipping costs and we have a few tools within the Sell Your Item form to help you more easily specify shipping.

The Sell Your Item form contains links to both the Shipping Wizard and a Shipping Calculator that will help you figure out the rates to charge for your shipping.

The Shipping Wizard guides you through everything you need to know to specify shipping for your item. From package and weight guidance to questions about insurance, the Shipping Wizard guides sellers through the decision points needed to specify shipping for their item.

The Shipping Calculator lets you quickly calculate the flat rate shipping costs for your item. You can specify domestic or international locations and get costs calculated based on your packaging and weight.

Specifying international shipping is becoming more and more popular on the US site. With the weakening dollar, international buyers are bidding more and more on items on the US site.

This is good news for sellers as you get the price you want and the buyers will pay to have their item shipped internationally.

On average, 13% of all items with international shipping specified receive at least one international bid.

In the Sell Your Item form, you can specify flat shipping domestically (where you specify the shipping costs) and offer calculated shipping internationally. Using calculated shipping, eBay will automatically show the correct shipping costs to a buyer - wherever they live in the world.

This new system of postage has cost me and my bidders more money. In the past I emailed them the cost of postage and it was exact. All this guessing is raising the price of auction items. I use a Mac and I know that my pages do not match up with PC pages. I use Safari or Firefox as my browser. Where do I go to have "not specified" in the postage area? I will take the chance it will turn off potential bidders, but if they read my listing, they will see I ask that they email me for exact postage, not a guess.

eBay Workshop: The shipping section in the Sell Your Item Form - Nov 20th

Nov 20, 2007 3:06 PM
I sell lots of different items and many buyers purchase mutiple items from me.

I'm having difficulty setting up rules because what I put in the SYI is over-ruled if I enable combined shipping rules.

Is it possible to set up combined shipping rules that DO NOT overrule the shipping you have in the listing?

Example: I have a multiple fixed price listing. The item costs $3.55 to ship for one, but the cost of two bumps the shipping rate to $7.50 so I put in $3.55 for the first and $3.55 for the second.

However, If the buyer then adds another item from another listing, I can't have a combined shipping rule because it bumps out the shipping costs I have in the original SYI for that listing and goes with whatever is lowest.

Can't you set it to not overrule your original listing?
