Thank you for joining us today for the eBay Toolbar workshop. I’m Eliana and I’m in the marketing group at eBay. I’m joined today by Xiaodi, Product Manager for eBay Toolbar. We’d like to use this time to discuss the latest enhancements to eBay Toolbar and answer any of your questions. To begin with, I’m going to post some general information about eBay Toolbar and call out some of the new features.

eBay Workshop: Using the Latest Version of eBay Toolbar - Oct 13th

eBay Toolbar Overview

eBay Toolbar is a downloadable software application that lives at the top of your Internet Explorer web browser. With eBay Toolbar:
  • You can search eBay at any time, even when on other web sites.
  • You can get to eBay, PayPal, My eBay and many other popular areas of the site with just one click.
  • You’ll receive helpful desktop alerts.
  • You can see items that you’re watching, bidding on and selling with just 1 click.
  • Your eBay account is safer. The Account Guard feature helps protect you from entering your eBay information into a potentially fraudulent (spoof) web site.

Download It: To download eBay Toolbar, go to the eBay Toolbar web page.

Please note, during the download process, you will then be asked to enter your passwords for eBay and PayPal. This step is optional and is part of the Account Guard password warning feature.

Once eBay Toolbar has been downloaded, be sure to click the “Sign in for advanced features” link. This will take you to an eBay sign in page. Once you sign into eBay, you will also sign into the eBay Toolbar.

Learn More: You can take the Toolbar tour to learn more about the toolbar’s many features. For more detailed information see the Toolbar Help pages.

eBay Workshop: Using the Latest Version of eBay Toolbar - Oct 13th

Enhancements to Alerts

If you’ve recently upgraded to the latest version of eBay Toolbar, perhaps you’ve already noticed the changes to the desktop alerts. For starters, there’s now a picture of the item in the alert. From the alert, you can click the button to go the item page, you can click the “Snooze “ button for the alert to come up again later, or you can simply click the “X” to close the alert. Here is an example of an alert for an item that is ending soon.

More Alerts

There are now more alerts for buying and selling. Here is a list of the new alerts recently added to eBay Toolbar.
  • Item won/not won alert -– You’ll be notified when you win or didn’t win items. You'll be alerted shortly after items that you're bidding on or watching end.
  • Item sold/not sold alert -– The same goes for items you’re selling. You'll see alerts on your desktop when your listings end, letting you know if the item sold or not.
  • Ask Seller a Question alert -– Sellers will now be alerted when a buyer has a question pending.
  • Second Chance Offer received alert -– Buyers will now be instantly notified when a seller makes them a Second Chance Offer on an item.
  • Best Offer received/accepted alert -– Sellers will be alerted when a buyer makes a Best Offer on an item they are selling, and buyers will be alerted if a seller chooses to accept their Best Offer.

Setting Options for Alerts

You have the ability to specify which alerts you would like to receive using the eBay Toolbar Options dialogue box. To get to the eBay Toolbar Options dialogue box, click the “Toolbar Options” link under the eBay logo. From here you can also make changes to the alert settings. (For example, you can change the amount of time before you are alerted from 10 minutes to as many as 75.) Please note that the dialog box may open behind your browser window. Minimize the window you’re using to see the dialogue box.

Here is what the Alerts and Sign-in dialogue box looks like:

eBay Workshop: Using the Latest Version of eBay Toolbar - Oct 13th

Oct 13, 2005 11:10 AM
Hello everyone,
My main question today is why do I get these popup reminders long after, and sometimes days, after the close of an auction, even if that action has already been done?

Thanks
Sonny

After all these years of telling us eBay and Paypal will never ask for your password. Now this:
Please note, during the download process, you will then be asked to enter your passwords for eBay and PayPal. This step is optional and is part of the Account Guard password warning feature.
I realize it is optional but if you don't give them this info are you still protected by Account Guard.
