eBay Workshop: Using ChannelAdvisor For Your Charity Listings! - June 29

Jun 29, 2006 1:01 PM

Thanks everyone for joining us today! We are pleased that you are interested in learning more about the eBay Giving Works program and how you can now also use ChannelAdvisor to create your listings, in addition to the Sell Your Item form and Turbo Lister.

As always, we’d like to start off by first thanking you for helping to grow the program. Thanks to you, over $74M has been raised for charity from listings sold on eBay worldwide! What a great accomplishment, and we hope to reach even newer heights in the years ahead.

Our goal is to continually make this process easier and better for you. Last year, we were excited to bring you a way to create your eBay Giving Works listings on the Sell Your Item form, and soon after you were also able to list with Turbo Lister. Now ChannelAdvisor becomes the first major Certified Solution Provider to offer support for eBay Giving Works listings.

eBay Workshop: Using ChannelAdvisor For Your Charity Listings! - June 29

Jun 29, 2006 1:03 PM

To those of you joining us who may be new to eBay Giving Works, we’ll start with a brief overview of the program.

eBay Giving Works (Link) is eBay’s dedicated program for charity listings. With eBay Giving Works, sellers like you have an opportunity to donate part or all of a listing’s final sale price to a nonprofit (you can choose from over 8,000 certified organizations, or nominate your favorite to join the program), allowing you to receive the benefits of cause marketing as you build your business on eBay.

As you may know, large companies have employed cause marketing as a strategy to build their business, improve their sales, and deepen their relationship with customers for years. And with eBay Giving Works, eBay sellers can benefit from this strategy as well.

It is a fact that buyers tend to prefer to buy items that benefit a cause over those that do not. In some instances, buyers may even pay more for an item that benefits charity. We have found that on average eBay Giving Works listings receive approximately twice as many bids as non-charity items. Additionally, eBay Giving Works items stand out with a distinctive charity ribbon icon and benefit from additional visibility through specialized search features (for an idea of what this looks like, click on this link to view a screen shot).

All these benefits AND you help important causes in the process!

eBay Workshop: Using ChannelAdvisor For Your Charity Listings! - June 29

Jun 29, 2006 1:06 PM

Today’s workshop…

In this workshop, we will describe the new functionality being offered by ChannelAdvisor, and show you how you can create an eBay Giving Works listing using ChannelAdvisor. As a point of clarification, in this workshop we will use “listing for charity” and “listing an eBay Giving Works item” interchangeably. Also, please note that that there are two types of charity listing activity:

  • Community Selling is when individuals sell to support of a certified nonprofit
  • Direct Selling is when nonprofits sell on their own behalf (after they have entered their eBay User ID in their Nonprofit My MissionFish account as a Direct Seller).

Certain aspects of the program differ based on the type of listing. We will be focusing on the Community Selling process in this workshop, but we’ll be happy to answer questions about Direct Selling if you have them, or you can visit Link for more information.

Before we dive in, I’d like to introduce you to two gentlemen who will be joining me for today’s workshop:

  • Max Leisten is the Senior Product Manager of Marketplaces at ChannelAdvisor, and he will be walking you through the new functionality and show you how to create eBay Giving Works listings with ChannelAdvisor.
  • David Yaskulka is the president of Harris Michael and an eBay PowerSeller (harrismichaeljewelry, formerly blueberryboutique). He has had extensive experience using ChannelAdvisor to create eBay Giving Works listings and can offer the seller’s perspective throughout this workshop.

Hi Givingengine --

A great place to get started is ChannelAdvisor Pro which you can try for free for 2 weeks. It fully supports eBay Giving Works and allows you to post listings with this great program enabled to eBay. You can learn more at Link.

At this year’s eBay Live! a couple weeks ago, ChannelAdvisor announced that they will now be supporting eBay Giving Works listing functionality, giving sellers another easy and fast way to create charity listings and support worthy causes!

I’ll turn this over to David and Max to share with us some of the key reasons you should incorporate cause marketing with eBay Giving Works into your general business strategy, and then walk you through the step-by-step process of how to list your eBay Giving Works listing using ChannelAdvisor.

eBay Workshop: Using ChannelAdvisor For Your Charity Listings! - June 29

Thanks, Jennifer!

Hey, I want to reveal a few biases before I go into why I use the program:

-I’m a ChannelAdvisor customer (and big fan)

-both MissionFish (currently) and eBay (previously) have been clients of my Blueberry Consulting firm (again, big fan of both)

-I have a life long passion for making the world a better place

-I like nothing better than making money WHILE making the world a better place (allows me to ramp up the program and give even more). I’m a business man and anything I do has to work for the bottom line.

For most any retail business, the benefits of connecting with a great cause will be clear:

-more customers
-greater customer loyalty
-greater morale for staff, business partners (and for yourself!)

But on eBay, the magic really compounds. When bidding and buying go up due to participating in eBay Giving Works, then the seller wins even more, which means we donate even more, and everyone wins. I love that part.

We used to do a lot of cause marketing outside of eBay Giving Works. It’s hard to do, but it helped bring us a repeat buyer % that’s 250% of eBay’s average.

But now, thanks to ChannelAdvisor, we can take advantage of all the traffic benefits as well – and the cool distinguishing ribbon icon, too! The giving bar (which adds the nonprofit’s logo and mission statement to our listing) is also phenomenal.

Now we have over $350,000 worth of jewelry and apparel listed through the program, and that’s just a start. We’ve even dedicated a new URL for our eBay store to position it as a cause marketing channel:

ChannelAdvisor

Enabling Giving Works within the ChannelAdvisor application is quick and simple:

    1. Select an eBay posting template which allows you to list one or a thousand products with ease

2.Activate Giving Works on the eBay posting template which allows you to list one or a thousand products with ease

    3. Select one of 20 featured nonprofits from a drop-down box or search for one that speaks directly to your buyers from over 8,000 organizations available. To search for a nonprofit, sellers may use ChannelAdvisor’s search page (Link) or MissionFish’s (Link).

    4. Schedule your listing or post now with the eBay Giving Works ribbon highlighting your product(s)

    5. In addition to the standard eBay.com listings, your items are now also searchable also via the Giving Works site as well as at MissionFish under the associated nonprofit
