1. One of the most powerful marketing tools any e-commerce entrepreneur uses is a mailing list. How wonderful it would be to have new inventory arrive, and with the click of a few buttons have the inventory be instantly sent & then purchased by the coveted customers on your mailing list? Are you taking advantage of this free tool that most e-commerce marketers agree is the most profitable part of your marketing plan?
First, how many subscribers do you already have? For those of you who may not yet know this answer, you can find out by following these simple steps:
Log in to My eBay
Scrolling down the left hand side navigation bar and click on Manage My Store
Next, click on the Email Marketing link. The page will display the total number of subscribers to your mailing lists.
Do you have 0? 15? 100? 700 customers who have asked to spend money with you again? After becoming a ‘PowerBuyer’ and buying 1000’s of items on eBay…did you know that only two companies have ever asked for me to spend money with them again? Two!! I am not sure why businesses work so hard to get new customers and then so easily let them go…and spend money with their competitor. You have the optimal opportunity to keep your brand and products in front of your customers constantly. First, let’s figure out how to get and retain these customers…then let’s talk about what you are going to do with this powerful list.

2. Are your promotion boxes set up? Are they set up correctly? There are 4 positions on your eBay Store where Promotion Boxes can be easily set up. To get the Promotion Box section of your eBay Store, go to:
Manage My Store
Scroll down the left side navigation bar and click on Promotion Boxes under Store Design. Once here, you will be able to add up to 4 promotion boxes to your eBay Store.
These Promotion Boxes are excellent areas to notify your customers of new stock, promotions, a new Custom Page, or anywhere else you specifically want them directed. I recommend that one of your top 2 boxes be used to drive customer sign-ups for your newsletter. To learn more about Promo Boxes go to Link

Now, ‘Think like a buyer, not a seller’…If you saw a box that said ‘Sign up for my General Interest newsletter’, how many of you would fall over yourself trying to quickly sign up? Exactly…none of you. Let’s entice those potential buyers. What about, ‘Be the first to know…’, ‘Receive $5.00 of your next purchase…’, ‘Get weekly security tips to protect yourself against buying fakes…’ Your newsletter has to have value to the customer in order for them to want to have one more piece of information arrive in their inbox. Remember, you can change your Promotion Boxes as often as you would like.

3. Now let’s get you ready to send out professional looking newsletters in minutes . To create an email campaign log in to o Manage My Store and then click on Email Marketing under Store Marketing. Scroll down to the Mailing List section and click Edit next to your General Interest Newsletter. Create a title, again, that would make your buyer want to signup for your newsletter. Perhaps, ‘Hottest Holiday Toys’, ‘Limited Editions’, or ‘Be the first to know…’. You can have up to 5 newsletters. This is perfect for niche marketing to your different buyers. Let’s say you sell Art…then you could have newsletters about ‘Originals’, ‘Limited Editions’, ‘Giclees’, ‘Sculptures’, and ‘Framing’. Your buyers can then sign up for 1, 2 or all 5 newsletters if they desire.

Depending upon what you sell, will determine how often you send out your newsletter. A good rule of thumb from the world of e-commerce marketing is: if you have something to tell them (which you should if you always have new inventory), is to send out a newsletter once a week. If you have more static inventory, then every two-three weeks would be optimal. The important part is to be in front of your customer at all times so they don’t ever go looking at the competition. Also, even if you only have a few subscribers, you should still be sending out emails…they have money too! Remember, these subscribers have opted in to your newsletter so they want to hear from you.

Sending out a newsletter is very easy. With the click of a few buttons, you have new inventory notifications going out instantly to all of your subscribers.
Let’s walk through this together….
1. Click Create Email at the top of your email marketing section.
2. Mark which Newsletter list you want to send to
3. Include any additional filters for the subscribers
4. Create a catchy title – i.e., ‘TMX Elmo’s have just arrived in our eBay Store’
5. You can choose to show your listing header or not (there is a preview button)
6. Type the body of your message using the HTML editor. Don’t forget that eBay now has templates that you can utilize so you don’t have to create your newsletter from scratch.
7. Use Item Showcase to highlight up to 4 items you want to feature.
8. Use the drop down menus to also showcase up to 50 additional items from your inventory – these will show up in a traditional auction-style listing format
9. Hit Preview & Continue…if all is good, click Send Email

Tip for you Trading Assistants – don’t forget that the focus of your eBay Store isn’t so much the inventory in the listings…as it is about you. You are the product. Your newsletter title/description can be, ‘How to get the highest price for your items on eBay…’ Then your newsletter can include information about your services, recent client success stories, links to e-books about selling on eBay, and hot new products that you have just acquired.

Excellent job…see, that is a great job for an assistant to do. PLUS, there are a couple extra bonuses about having a newsletter.

1. Soon, you will be able to automate your newsletters so they will go out automatically! We love how eBay makes running our business easier
2. Did you know that you can utilize the 75% referral credit option (Link) in your newsletter too? Just make sure you are adding your referral id (?refid=store) at the end of your listing links so that eBay can pay you 75% off your Final Value Fees for driving traffic into your eBay Store.

Definitely check out the Email Marketing area for all of the other incredible marketing opportunities you have of staying in touch with your buying public. To take a quick tutorial go to: Link

4. How about an easy one now? Do you have your Listing Frame set up? This just takes a minute or two, and then eBay will automatically insert it instantly into every one of your listings.
The Listing Frame gives Store owners an amazing opportunity to promote additional items, Custom Pages, their Newsletter(s) and their About Me page in every single one of their listings.

You will notice that there is a search box, places where the viewer can sign up for the newsletter, and then down the left hand side are (up to the first 25) the Store categories.

To set up your Listing Frame, again, go to Manage My Store. On the left side under Store Marketing click on Listing Frame.
The first choice is how your Listing Frame is going to look. Here are you choices:
Don't show my Store listing header and left-navigation bar in my listings.

X Show my Store listing header and left-navigation bar in my listings.

Show my Store listing header in my listings.

As you can see, I have picked the middle one.
