eBay Stores are one of the most powerful e-commerce solutions you could have in your business plan – yet most eBay Stores are not set up to take advantage of these incredible tools, many of which are included in the subscription of the Store. After having talked to and worked with numerous Store owners, I have come to realize that many of them did not even know these amazing tools even existed within an eBay Store – much less how to set them up.

1. We talked about Promotion Boxes in our last workshop (Link) hopefully yours are now set up and ready to go…but did you know that you can customize your Promotion Boxes even MORE. You (or your webmaster) can easily match your colors, style and photos to your Promotion Boxes for added branding continuity. Let me show you how:

Log into Manage Your Store from your My eBay
Click on Promotion Boxes under Store Design
Either click to Create a new promotion box or Edit one of your existing ones
Select your location
Then in the 2nd drop down box, choose Custom Text/HTML
Give your box a name (this doesn’t show anywhere except to you)
Now it’s up to you what you want to create…
Do you want to include a Title Bar and Border?
If so, mark the box and include the Title that will show up for your Promotion Box
Now use the HTML editor (under Content) to create your very own personalized Promotion Box
In the HTML editor, you can add pictures, links and text to personalize what you want in your box
When selecting a picture – you can choose from your Picture Manager, or from files on your computer.
For links – use the HTML builder to create links to an item, Store page or a Store search
Towards the bottom, you can customize the colors, font and font size for your Promotion Box.
Check your Preview – if it looks fabulous, then hit SAVE.
Double check in your eBay Store to make sure it is in the location that you want.

2. RSS feeds – hey! No eye-glazing over there. You don’t have to understand the technology behind this amazingly powerful marketing tool – only how it will benefit you & your buyers.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. In quick terms, it means that your customer asks for, and receives, a legal pop-up on their computer every time you list something new!! Nope, not joking. Isn’t this incredible? This technology uses something called a Feed that your buyer subscribes to with an RSS reader. The feeds can come from any type of ‘headline’ website…news, blog, search engine…I even have an RSS feed from certain listings on Craigslist. eBay has added RSS feeds to it’s entire site – but most important to you…you have an RSS feed for your eBay Store. Let’s go turn it on…

Go to Manage My Store
Scroll down to Listing Feeds under Store Marketing – Click
Now you will see two Feeds available to you (we will get to the 2nd one in a moment) Make sure the buttons next to:
Distribute your listings via RSS
And
Make a file of your Store inventory listings available
are checked.

Now, go back to your eBay Store and scroll to the very bottom of the page…see the little orange box in the left hand side with ‘rss’ in it? THAT is your RSS reader and it is already working. Your buyer downloads an RSS reader (there are lots of them – I use www.rssreader.com) and then ‘adds’ your Feed to their Reader. This is easy for them to do…they simply click on your Orange Box and up will come a website with a lot of ‘gobledy-gook’…ok, html, but it looks like a mess. They will highlight the URL at the top Address Box, and then hit Ctrl C to copy it…and it will add it to their RSS reader. Now every time you list something (or your listing automatically relist), a pop-up will show up on your buyers computer with the Titles of your Listings. They can click on these pop-ups and be taken directly to your auction listing to Buy, Buy, Buy!! Remember the newsletters I taught you about last time – use one of them to ‘teach’ your buyers how to effectively use RSS feeds to ‘beat out the competition’ for items they are interested in purchasing.

Now how cool is that? You can always learn more about RSS readers and feeds by going to any search engine and simply typing in RSS.
