We will talk about using market research to find the best times to close your auctions and use analysis from Terapeak Motors Parts & Accessories tool to illustrate how you can increase your success rate.

Welcome to our workshop, “Finding the Best Time to sell Motors Parts & Accessories” ” The Terapeak marketing team, Sara Taheri and Morgan Brooks are here to answer any questions you may have. Today we are talking about how you can use market research to find the best time to list your items to achieve maximum profits. This is an important topic because planning your auctions can have a large impact on your sales. You want to pick the best time that gives you high traffic and high selling prices.

In this workshop we will use analysis from the Terapeak Motors Parts & Accessories tool; to illustrate some simple things you can do with your auctions to increase your success rate.

Using Research

Before we begin we would like to give you an overview of how market reserachworks. Here is a simple run-down of the researching process:
1.You have items to sell on eBay

2.Research those items –

3.Get Information -

4. 4. Use information to create a selling strategy and improve listing success:

i.Average sold price for “BMW Headlight” = $122.97

ii.2,637 listings on eBay in the last 30 days

iii.14.49% success rate

iv.Wednesday is best day to sell

v.7 day listings are most successful…etc

Best Time of Day

An important part of selling on eBay is ending your auction at the right time of day. Every item is unique and each will have different demand throughout the day.

For example above is a search we performed for “Honda Wheels”. The graph shows the number of total listings vs. the number of successful listings for each hour of the day. Demand for this item seems to be very strong between 7-8 pm.

Best Time of Week to List

Choosing the best day of the week is also very important. If you look at this example of “BMW Alternator” you can see that demand fluctuates throughout the week. As you can see Wednesday has the highest, the highest Sell-Through Rate.

It definitely pays to do some research to find the best time of the week to end your auction, that way you know when you will have the greatest success for your particular item. Research allows you to track buyer behavior and plan your sales accordingly

Learning Objective

Timing is everything and with Market Research you can pick the best day of the week and hour of day to end your auction. Don’t just guess a time, do the research and come out on top!

How Long to List your Item

Based on our research on “BMW Radiator”, we have found that listing for3 Days would be the wisest. Of the 17 auctions listed that day, 52.94% of them sold.

Even though most people list for 7 days, 3 days seems to be the most effective.

Market Research can help you figure out how long you should list your item. Choosing auction details can be difficult and Market Research can be used as a guide to the best options for your auction.

One of the big mistakes we see beginner sellers making is that they neglect to account for the time of year that their auction is listed. But the fact is, the time that your auction is listed will have a big impact on the number of people who see your auction, the number of people who bid on your auction, and thus, the price you get for your item.

Within Motors research you now have access to all the transaction in Parts & Accessories category for the last 365 days. This could assist you in forecasting demand and preparing for it.

Lets take a look at “BayLiner” under Boat Parts for the month of June first.

As the market research shows, the average sold Price is $98.69, with the sell-through rate of 57.31%.
