Greetings! And welcome to our workshop!

Today we’ll be looking at how using the Terapeak Research from closed listings on eBay can improve your sales. We’ll go over one example of how a seller could use the research to make more money on eBay, using a case study of an imaginary eBay seller!

Sara and I will be here all hour to answer any questions you may have about the workshop or market research in general.

First we’ll post the workshop material (remember to refresh your screen to see the content as it is posted) and then we’ll have time for questions!

Let’s get started…

In this workshop we’re going to use research that you can do yourself, for free at www.terapeak.com. The pictures and graphs below are all simple to generate and today we’ll look at how to interpret the research and tweak your auctions to improve your sales!

I’m going to use an example seller today, and we’ll pretend that they are selling bathing suits. Particularly at this time of year, I can imagine that a lot of bathing suits are being purchased on eBay as people prepare for summertime lounging around the pool!

If I’m a bathing suit seller, I realize now is the time for me to really move some product – but I also have to make sure that my listings are going to outsell all the other listings!

First, I’m going to search for one piece bathing suits. I type that into my search bar, and a report is generated with my statistics from the past 30 days of eBay sales!
I am going to look solely at women’s bathing suits, so I filter my search to show only listings in the Clothing, Shoes and Accessories>Women’s Clothing category.

At the top of the report we see a brief overview. Of the 1,520 listings, 37.37% have sold, and at an average price of $15.44.

Scrolling down, I can see the report on the one piece women’s bathing suits.
I can expand any of these sections to review the information. First, I want to figure out what the best listing options are for my swim suits…so I will review the Listing Promotion and Listing Type chart.

We can see that there are a lot of Gallery Listings within the group we’ve researched. Out of 1,520 there are 1,263 in Gallery Listings. Of those, only 38.56% sold. The best Sell-Through rate of all promotions is the Category Featured and then the Subtitle option.
There are so few listings in Category Featured that I’m not going to take that too seriously, but with half of the 28 subtitled listings sold, I am going to consider using that before I do the Gallery Listing. Picture Services also have a 44.98% Sell-Through rate. This may be another way for me to list my item.

These are the Listing Types that are used within our search… the large majority are bid items, which have a Sell-Through rate of 37.09% and an average price of $14.82.

In comparison, the Store listings have a 38.55% Sell-Through and an average price of $21.95. Furthermore, the Fixed Price listings are fewer, but have a 47.22% Sell-Through rate, which is quite a lot better than the overall Sell-Through of 37.37% - and an average price of $20.75. This information will help me decide which sort of listing I will use.

When you are building your listing, you also need to determine how long you want it to run. Will more days be advantageous to your profits, or is this a sale you will complete in one day? Looking at the breakdown for each day will help you decide which way to go!

It’s also advantageous to find out when your customers are shopping. Here the buyers are quite evenly spread out through the week, so let’s look at how the hour we choose will affect our sale…

We can look at the chart in this case, or the numerical report. In this example, the Total Listings are in blue, with the Sold Listings in green. It looks like the morning (around 8am) and in the evening (6pm) is when your customer is buying.

It’s really as simple as that! Also, I can scroll down and see the individual listings within my search, which are organized by highest price.

And there you have it! A very quick and painless explanation of how research can help you improve your sales.
Wondering why your item sold for less than you thought it would? Search for it for free on www.terapeak.com and compare your listing!
Are you curious about the value of an item collecting dust in your garage? www.terapeak.com!
Can’t figure out why another seller is selling items and your listings don’t accumulate bids? Do your research!
