Hi,

I won't be able to be here for the whole thing as I will be "in transit." I do want to be present for as much as I can. I understand you can look at the discussion after. Can you do that even if you aren't logged in?

Thanks

Gail

Hi salesaholic, thanks for the question. To sell your items in Canada, you can either list them on eBay.com and click "worldwide shipping" or you can list them directly on the eBay.ca site.

If you are shipping from the US, you need to complete the necessary paperwork for customs. Specifically, either you or the customer will have to pay the 7% GST (Goods and Sales Tax) on the item.

What is cross-border trading? Cross-border trading simply means that the buyer and seller are located in different countries.

What are the top cross-border trade locations for selling outside of the US? Canada, UK, Germany and Australia are the top cross-border locations.

Can you elaborate on the specifics of accepting Paypal for cross border transactions? What is the best way to ensure as a seller you are protected? Does Paypal even offer seller protection for cross border transactions? I've heard lots of stories of buyers claiming "non-receipt" and the seller being left out to dry. If Paypal is not the best way to receive payment, then what is? Thanks, Jennifer

Hi Sailshigh, thanks for the question. My understanding is that PayPal only verifies transactions from Canada and the UK. Perhaps you want to begin your cross-border trading by offering your items in those locations first, to test the waters, so to speak.

As a follow up to that question, it is key that you know the preferred local payment methods for each region where you plan to sell your items and how you can accept them.

For example, most customers in Germany prefer to pay via Electronic Bank Transfer, rather than via credit card. About 50% of customers in Australia also want to pay via Electronic Bank Transfer. This is a different kind of payment than we usually see in the US, so you need to look into accepting these methods of payment if you want to reach the maximum number of customers.

BidPay is a similar service to PayPal, but is not a different name for Electronic Bank Transfer.

The best way to understand the payment methods that each service accepts is to thoroughly review their policies and accepted payment methods.
